School  of Humanities and Law

With a long history, the School of Humanities and Law is one of a teaching and research organizations of humanities and social sciences early established in universities of science and engineering in Sichuan. Built on the former Marxism Teaching and Research Office of Chengdu University of Technology, the School started enrollment and opened the philosophy teacher class for the first generation of students in 1978, and was turned into the Department of Social Sciences in 1985. In 2002, the university established the School of Humanities and Law on the foundation of the Department of Social Sciences. In April 2017, the university renamed the School of Humanities and Law as the School of Law, and also set up the Judicial Research Institute, affiliated with the School of Law. In April 2021, it was renamed to the School  of Humanities and Law by the CDUT again.

The School, through more than 40 years of development, owns three master programs, namely, JM, Philosophy of Science and Technology and LLM. 6 Undergraduate majors, namely Law, Sociology, Social Work, Public Affairs Management, Labor and Social Security, and Political Science and Administration. Among them, the Law major was listed into the "Sichuan Excellent Legal Talents Education and Training Program"; Majors including Sociology, Social Work, Public Affairs Management, Labor and Social Security are separately implemented enrollment in large categories. The School has 3 school-level scientific research bases and 1 comprehensive training room, namely, Bankruptcy Law and Enterprise Protection Research Center, Applied Sociology Research Institute and University Student Crime Prevention Institute; and it has established multi-level cooperation with enterprises and institutions in cities including Deyang, Yibin, Guang'an, Ya'an, Mianyang and Bazhong; as well as professional practice teaching bases with People’s Procuratorate of Chenghua District, People’s Court of Chenghua District, Sichuan Zhigao Shoumin Law Firm, National Bureau of Statistics Chengdu Investigation Team, Sichuan Women's Federation, Chengdu Chenghua District, and subdistrict offices, enterprises and institutions in Chengdu, providing a solid foundation for training of professional talents. The School has set "Scholarship for Zhigao Shoumin Lawyer" and "Scholarship for Zheng Shuhong Lawyer" to award students majoring in Law with excellent performance in both character and learning.

The School has built a well-structured faculty team of 84 full-time and 22 part-time lecturers. Among the 71 full-time lecturers, there are 6 professors, 25 associate professors, 36 lecturers, and 20 teachers with doctoral degrees, professional title and academic background; Among them, 6 lecturers have been selected as candidates for Academic and Technical Leader of Sichuan Province, 1 has obtained the Young Teacher Award from the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, 2 have won Provincial and Ministerial Teaching Achievement Awards, 2 have won the second prize of Provincial Teaching Competitions, 3 have won Provincial and Ministerial Scientific Research Achievement Awards; During the past three years, 1 Provincial Education Reform project, three National Social Science Funds, 17 Provincial and Ministerial Topics and more than 30 department level topics have been conducted, with more than RMB 4 million of scientific research funds, 14 publicly-released teaching reform papers, over 20 scientific research papers on CSSCI journal, 3 publicly-released monographs and 2 textbooks. All the achievements mentioned above have improved the academic and teaching levels of full-time lecturers in an all-round way.

The School has now 2,390 students, including 2,314 undergraduates and 76 postgraduates. Student activities and social practice are rich in diversity and efficiency. Plenty of teams and individuals have won the titles of "National Merit Class", "National Top Ten Outstanding Cadres of Student", "Sichuan Advanced Team in Ideological and Political Education" and "Sichuan Advanced Class" for several times, and have scored enormous achievements in the National and Provincial Extracurricular Science and Technology Competition of "Challenge Cup" for college students", "Creating Youth" National Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Competition", "Internet Plus" Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and Mock Court by Students Competition, speech contests and art performances.

Over 7,000 students graduated from the School, including over 400 master students, and hundreds of master's and doctoral students have been sent to universities listed in "985" and "211" Program. Graduates from the School have widely received positive comments for their performance in fields like management, law, publicity, education and secretarial work in Party and government organs, judicial institutions, enterprises and public institutions at all levels.
