College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering
The College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering of Chengdu University of Technology centers on teaching and research, cultivating talents in specialties of nuclear science and technology, instrument science and technology, and electrical engineering. With an over-60-year history, it began in 1956 when "Department Three" (consisting of 3 specialties: Radioactive Geological Exploration, Radioactive Geophysical Exploration, and Geochemistry of Rare and Dispersed Elements ) was set up for the national development of atomic energy. Chairman Mao Tse-tong was the first Dean of "Department Three" and Ren Xiang, a scholar who had studied in the Soviet Union, inscribed the Department's mission which called on its faculty and students to "Develop the Mining Industry" on the stele. In 1965, for the protection of key specialities,

moved "Department Three" and put it under the then Chengdu College of Geology.
The Department's specialty "Radioactive Geology and Exploration" was among the first programs that got approved by the State Council Academic Degree Committee to issue master's degrees in 1981, and one of the first specialties that were qualified to enroll doctoral students in 1982 and to confer doctoral degrees in 1984, becoming one of the few then permitted to confer bachelor's, master's, and doctor's degrees of a discipline in the country. In 1985, "Department Three" was renamed the Department of Nuclear Raw Materials and Nuclear Technology Engineering, shorten to the Department of Nuclear Engineering. In 2001, the Department integrated itself as the mainstay with the former Mechanical and Electrical Engineering specialty of the Department of Exploration and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the former Electrical Engineering and Automation specialty of the Department of Information and Physics and thus formed the College of Applied Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering which was renamed the College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering in 2005.
The College has built a sound-structured faculty of high-caliber and rigorous professionals, which is influential at home and abroad. Of the 78 members, there are 58 full-time teachers, 20 professors(researchers), 20 associate professors (associate researchers). 78% of the full-time teachers hold titles of and above associate professors. Besides, there are 19 doctoral supervisors and more than 60 outside and part-time visiting professors (they are mainly from China Aero Geophysical Survey and Remote Sensing Center for Land and Resources, China General Nuclear Power Group, China National Nuclear Corporation, Nuclear Aerial Survey and Remote Sensing Center, Nuclear Power Institute of China, Nuclear Geology Administration of Sichuan Province, Environment Administration and Supervision Center of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Atomic Energy Institute etc.). Teachers with a master's degree account for 89.7% of the total teachers, and those with a doctor's degree account for 85% of the total full-time teachers. The faculty has an average age of 38 years with young and mid-aged teachers accounting for 85%. The teachers have been trained in nearly 20 specialties, coming from over 30 institutes and universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Sichuan University, Zhejiang University, Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Technology, China University of Geosciences, Chongqing University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, Beihang University, and Hefei University of Technology. Besides, there are teachers that are graduates from overseas institutions in the US, the UK, Japan, Russia etc. Their expertise covers more than 20 specialties and research interests and mainly three major fields which are Nuclear Technology and Application, Geology of Uranium Deposits, and Electrical Engineering and Automation. In addition, the faculty includes 1 IEEE fellow, 1 member and 1 advisors of the Steering Committee on Undergraduate Education of Nuclear Discipline of the Ministry of Education, 2 experts that enjoy the State Council Special Government Allowances, 1 member supported by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, 1 Prominent Young Talent for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Natural Resources, 2 academic and technological leaders and 2 reserve candidates of Sichuan Province, 1 Outstanding expert of Sichuan Province, 5 members supported by the high-end talents programs of Sichuan Province, 1 distinguished teacher of Sichuan Province, a teaching group of Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology in the mold of Huang Danian accredited by the Ministry of Education, and 3 youth scientific and technological innovation teams.
The College offers 4 undergraduate programs which are Nuclear Engineering ( including "Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology" and "Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety"), Electrical Engineering and Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation. Among them, "Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology" is a state first-class discipline, a state characteristic discipline and a pilot discipline of the state Excellent Engineers Education and Training Program, which passed the engineering education accreditation in 2018; "Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety" is a provincial first-class discipline, and passed the engineering education accreditation in 2021; "Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation" is a provincial first-class discipline, a provincial characteristic discipline, and a pilot discipline of the provincial Excellent Engineers Education and Training Program; "Electrical Engineering and Automation" is a pilot discipline of the provincial Excellent Engineers Education and Training Program. There are more than 1,500 undergraduates and more than 400 master's and doctoral students enrolled in the College.
In recent years, the College has engaged in more than 180 state, ministerial and provincial research tasks including the 863 Program, state key R&D programs, and the programs supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, published more than 1,000 academic papers in domestic and foreign journals, of which more than 400 are listed in SCI and EI, won 1 second prize and 1 third prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and more than 60 prizes of ministerial and provincial science and technology achievement awards, and gained more than 150 invention patents. Meanwhile, it has established a wide range of academic exchanges and partnerships with research institutions in more than a dozen countries and regions, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Israel, the UK, Russia, Japan, Hong Kong of China, as well as international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The College has itself based in the west region and orientated toward the whole country. Over the course of more than six decade of talent cultivation, the College has always follow the principle of "nurturing virtue through education" and well-round education, stayed committed to the scientific and technological innovation-driven development strategy, and given priority to trainings on practical skills and techniques, cultivating more than 20,000 professionals for the country. From them emerged a large number of experts and scholars highly-reputed at home and abroad, some of whom have become the academic and technological leaders, technological backbones and senior managers in the country's nuclear industry and mechanical and electrical fields, making significant contributions to the country's scientific advancement. Through the long-term talent cultivation, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance, the College has forged the fine traditions of "ceaselessly pursuing self-improvement, breaking new ground, cherishing solidarity and inclusiveness, and honoring commitment and taking practical actions".

In 1959, "Department Three" was established (in the former Beijing College of Geology)
In 1965, "Department Three" was moved and put under the then Chengdu College of Geology.
In 1985, "Department Three" was renamed the Department of Nuclear Raw Materials and Nuclear Technology Engineering.
In 2002, the College of Applied Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering was established.
In 2005, the College was renamed the College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering
