College of Environment and Civil Engineering

The College is developed from the former Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of Chengdu College of Geology.

The Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology was established in 1956. As Chengdu College of Geology was renamed Chengdu University of Technology in 1993, the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology was divided into two departments, with one remaining the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology and the other named the Department of Engineering Geology and Constructional Engineering to suit the needs of discipline development. In 1997, to adapt to new development of higher education, the two departments were integrated into the University's first college, the College  of Environment and Civil Engineering. In the end of 2001, Chengdu University of Technology formed through the merge of three colleges and universities and part of the specialties of the former Department of Exploration and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Department of Applied Chemistry were incorporated into the College.

Through more than 60 years of development, the College has established 6 academic departments, 1 state key laboratory, 1 state demonstration center for experimental teaching, 1 state center for virtual and simulated experiment teaching, 1 state engineering practice and education center, 1 general laboratory and undertaken 1 state virtual and stimulated experimental teaching program.

It has 2949 registered students, including 1900 undergraduates and 1049 (master's and doctoral) postgraduates, and offers 6 undergraduate programs which are Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Groundwater Science and Technology, Engineering Management, Urban Underground Space Engineering, and Engineering Mechanics. It has 2 postdoctoral research stations in Geological Resources and Geological Engineering and Civil Engineering. Meanwhile, it's qualified to confer doctoral degrees in two primary disciplines (i.e. Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, and Civil Engineering) and master's degrees in two disciplines (i.e. Resources and Environment, and Civil and Hydraulic Engineering). Geological Engineering is a state key discipline, and Geotechnical Engineering is a provincial and ministerial key discipline. Geological Engineering and Civil Engineering are among the state first-class specialties and the state characteristic specialties (have passed twice the engineering education accreditation by the Ministry of Education). The college has developed an influential discipline cluster of "Geological Engineering + Civil Engineering" in the country.

Of the 186 faculty members, there are 160 teachers and laboratory teachers, 34 doctoral supervisors, 56 professors (researchers included), 65 associate professors (associate researchers and senior engineers included), 39 lecturers (assistant researchers and engineers included), and more than 83.75% hold a doctoral degree. This is an excellent mixed-age teaching team, well-structured in terms of position title, age, and academic degree, and thus has established 10 teaching and scientific research groups including a state teaching group of Geological Engineering, a provincial teaching group of Geotechnical Engineering, a scientific and technological innovation group of the Ministry of Education, an innovation and research group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

The College has leveraged the state key laboratory, the state key discipline, the state center experimental teaching and other high-level platforms to obtain abundant results in teaching and scientific research, and has fostered more than 19,000 undergraduates and more than 3,800 postgraduates including over 400 doctoral students who have made important contributions to the building and development of the country. It has been honored with 2 second prizes of the national Teaching Achievement Award, and provincial and ministerial Teaching Achievement Awards for dozens of times. And "Principles of Engineering Geological Analysis" was evaluated as a state exquisite course. Over the past decade, the College, as an independent unit, has won 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and dozens of provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological outcomes without the support of any state, ministerial, provincial or local programs. It has published more than 40 monographs and more than 1,500 SCI- and EI-indexed papers, and received more than 100 licensed patents and more than 50 software copyrights.

Currently, as an important research and teaching pillar of CUDT, guided by the national blueprint of building CDUT into "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines", the College is making strides following its 14th Five-Year Plan.
