Prof. Liu Qingyou, Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee of the Competition and President of CDUT, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Organizing Committee, all the leaders and experts and all the partner institutions in his speech, and warmly congratulated the students for their achievements. He pointed out that under the care and guidance of the organizer and the Organizing Committee, CDUT boldly innovated and formed a competition model under the circumstance of regular pandemic prevention and control through the comprehensive reform of the competition content and competition mode, and realized the promise of "no reduction in the competition items; no reduction in the content, difficulty and judging standards of the competition items; ensuring fairness, impartiality and openness". He concluded that the competition has four major innovations. Firstly, the competition integrated virtual and real content in order to ensure that the four competition unit items will not be reduced. Secondly, the competition maintained interoperability and interconnection in form. 61 competition sites of colleges and universities across the country compete together in the cloud, with limited space for contestants to participate and multi-dimensional interactive supervision by judges, realizing fair competition on the same stage. Thirdly, the competition had a diversified and integrated model, forming a new hosting mode of "hosting colleges and universities-oriented and supplemented by participating colleges and universities". Fourthly, there were many supervisory measures in place to ensure the orderliness, fairness, scientificity, effectiveness and justice of the competition. He emphasized that the competition was a reform and innovation under the new situation and new requirements, and the successful holding of the competition has created new ideas and new ways for the possibility of developing the National University Student Geological Skills Competition into an international event, and provided a "CDUT's model" for the sustainable development of the event. He pointed out that we are at the historical intersection of the "two hundred years" and are facing major changes unseen in the past century. Higher education and geoscience talent cultivation is undergoing high-quality development. We should take this competition as an opportunity to strengthen the reform of geoscience education and teaching, optimize the talent cultivation approaches, and make greater contributions to the geoscience talent cultivation, earth science research and major national needs in China.

President Liu Qingyou delivered a closing speech

Prof. Liu Dameng, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of the Geological Education Research Branch, Geological Society of China, and Vice President of China University of Geosciences, Beijing, pointed out in his speech that this competition was a comprehensive review of the quality of geological talent cultivation and teaching in the past years. He hoped that the students would maintain a positive attitude regardless of the results, study hard, broaden their horizons, improve their skills, attach importance to professional study, cultivate their innovative ability, and make contributions to the geological development of China in the future. He stressed that in the geological higher education, we should continue to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping, adhere to the development path of socialist education with Chinese characteristics, strive to build an education system for all-around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetical and labor education, and form a high-level talent cultivation. We should deepen the reform of the education system, improve the implementation mechanism of cultivating talents of high academic and moral development, focus on cultivating innovative, compound, and application-oriented talents, and contribute to the realization of the great rejuvenation dream of the Chinese nation. He announced that the "6th National Geological Skills Competition for College Students" was concluded, and the host for the "7th National Geological Skills Competition for College Students" would be China University of Petroleum (East China).
