The 2022 Graduation Ceremony and Degree Conferment Ceremony Were Grandly Held at CDUT

In June, the fragrant peaches, plums and gardenia perfume the air at Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT).There are weeping willows and farewell songs resounding on campus. With the great love for the university and the beautiful vision for the future, the 2022 graduates are full of harvest and stepping on a new journey toward their dreams.
On June 17, the CDUT’s 2022 Graduation Ceremony and Degree Conferment Ceremony were held on the west sports field. At 8:00 a.m., the solemn national anthem kicked off the graduation ceremony.

Participants in the ceremony included Liu Baojun, Honorary President of CDUT and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the university’s leaders such as Gong Hao, Liu Qingyou, Sun Wen, Huang Tao, Xu Qiang, Zeng Ying, Hou Mingcai and Ju Nengpan, members of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee and representatives of doctoral supervisors of the university, as well as the representatives of the 2022 graduates.

Zhuo Xueshang, a 2022 undergraduate graduate majoring in Investment at the Business School, and Yin Yuepeng, a 2022 master graduate majoring in Environmental Science and Engineering at the College of Ecology and Environment, expressed their gratitude, reluctance and best wishes to the university and teachers on behalf of all graduates, saying that they would keep in mind the earnest wishes of General Secretary Xi Jinping to the youth and resolutely fulfill the youthful vow of "Party, please count on me on the way to a stronger country". Prof. Li Tianbin, Dean of the College of Environment and Civil Engineering, expressed his best wishes to the graduates as the representative of teachers. He said that Chengdu University of Technology had witnessed the strong growth of all graduates, while all graduates had witnessed the great changes and brilliance of Chengdu University of Technology. He urged all graduates, as eternal "CDUT people", to: firstly, remember General Secretary Xi Jinping's wish and strive to become a new man of the times who can bear the heavy responsibility of national rejuvenation; secondly, follow the motto of the university, think of their teachers' teachings, remember the time of their studies, seek truth and gain achievements in practice; thirdly, in the society, which is a virtual university without regular limitation, persistently read more and better books, learn to behave before doing anything, be full of love and be confident of success in your heart; fourthly, face challenges with confidence and strength, face hardships with persistence and gratitude, face the storms of life with the attitude of "no matter how the wind blows and the waves beat, it is better than walking at leisure", and realize the dream of life with efforts in youth.

Prof. Liu Qingyou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Fifth Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, doctoral supervisor, and President of CDUT, delivered a speech to the graduates.
As he said, in the past four years, the university has made steady progress in developing into "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines", the second Party Congress of the university has drawn a blueprint, the Mount Everest Program has greatly advanced, the science and education awards have reached record highs, the mode of one university and two locations has been running efficiently, the campus construction has become more and more perfect, and the comprehensive construction of a high-level university with more remarkable advantages and characteristics has taken new steps. Students have been associated with the development of the times and were in harmony with the development of CDUT. Based on the "Two Overall Situations", students have more deeply experienced the superiority of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and felt China's confidence, China's power and China's responsibility, and further enhanced the backbone, strength and ambition of youth in the new era. Despite the pandemic, all the graduates proved that the young people of Chengdu University of Technology in the new era could assume great
responsibilities by being self-disciplined and helping each other to overcome the difficulties with courage and practical actions.
He put forward five requirements for all graduates to inherit the enterprising spirit of "unwilling to lag behind and making pioneering efforts" and to be the youth of the new era in pursuit of progress. The first is to set high aspirations, always take serving the country and the people as own responsibility and integrate personal growth into the cause of the Party and the people; the second is to combine phasing out the old and bringing in the new, always take pioneering and innovation as own responsibility, establish the awareness of always being new, enhance the courage of daring to be new and exercise the ability of being new, so as to lead the innovation tide of the times; the third is to rise to the challenge, always take driving out evil and ushering in good as own responsibility, be the model of daring to fight and being good at fighting, take the risk and challenge as touchstones and "steel-making furnaces", and overcome difficulties, cultivate courage, and develops talents in the struggle; the fourth is to be down-to-earth, always take dedicating yourselves to society as own responsibility, be a pioneer in a new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects, and be a career leader, take challenges as opportunities, not be short-sighted in setbacks, be willing to enjoy loneliness and willing to be a screw, fulfill your own responsibilities with hard work and run the youth relay race well with dedication; and the fifth is to be strict with yourselves in self-cultivation, always abide by the righteousness as own responsibility, be a model of respecting morality and goodness and strictly observing discipline, take being loyalty to the Party as "great virtue", keeping the people at your heart first as "public virtue" and developing yourselves as "private virtue".
He fondly told the graduates, "Today, you run with the dreams and travel far. The university sends you off with prosperous flowers in the name of love, wishing you all a steady path of life in the pursuit of progress and the best performance on the track of youth. The university will always be your strong supporter and spiritual home, and welcome go back home often."

With the gratitude and reluctance to the university, the representatives of the graduates presented their parting gifts to the university. The upper part of the ornament was marked with words "Growth at CDUT" to form a vivid image of sailing, which means riding the wind and waves to forge ahead; while the lower part of the ornament was carved with the school motto "Seeking Truth, Seeking Triumph", which indicates that with our original mission and aspiration firmly in mind, CDUT will constantly develop be based on the university motto in the future The ornament is 1.956m high, which symbolizes that CDUT has "set sail on the Red Boat" since 1956 and shows the spirit of CDUT’s people who are "unwilling to lag behind and instead making pioneering efforts".

It is reported that 6,527 undergraduates received bachelor's degrees, 79 postgraduates received doctoral degrees, and 1,506 received master's degrees this year. Besides, 100 graduation theses were included in the "100 excellent bachelor's theses (designs)" of CDUT in 2022, 403 students were honored as "Excellent Graduates of Sichuan Province", and 1461 students were honored as "Excellent Graduates of Chengdu University of Technology".
