On May 23, 2025, GeoSoftware held a donation ceremony at Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT), presenting the university with three geoscience software packages: Jason, HampsonRussell, and PowerLog. The event took place at the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation. Professor Hou Mingcai, Member of the Standing Committee of the CDUT Party Committee and Vice President of the university, and Mr. Kester Waters, CEO of GeoSoftware, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Representatives from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on big data and industrial software and signed a formal donation agreement.

Vice President Hou Mingcai highlighted in his remarks that CDUT’s disciplines of “Geology” and “Geological Resources and Engineering” have been selected for China’s Double First-Class initiative. He noted that the university’s academic strengths align closely with GeoSoftware’s technological focus. The donation not only provides strong support for CDUT’s discipline development, but also serves as an important catalyst for scientific innovation and the integration of academia and industry. He expressed hope that both parties would use this opportunity to deepen cooperation in areas such as technological innovation, project development, high-level talent cultivation, and platform building, working together toward win–win outcomes.

Mr. Kester Waters shared that, as a former geology student fascinated by rocks, strata, and geological processes, and now in his role as the CEO of GeoSoftware, he hopes to partner with higher education institutions to inspire innovation among students in the energy field and help cultivate the next generation of industry leaders. He emphasized GeoSoftware’s commitment to supporting Chinese universities in tackling the challenges of efficient oil and gas exploration and development, thereby contributing to the sustainable growth of the industry.
A donation agreement was signed between GeoSoftware China and the CDUT Education Development Foundation. Vice President Hou presented a donation certificate to the company representative on behalf of the university. Representatives from the Graduate Affairs Department/Graduate School, the Institute of Science and Technology Development, the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, the Alumni Office (Education Development Foundation Office), the College of Energy, the College of Geophysics, and the Institute of Sedimentary Geology attended the ceremony.
During the event, a technical advisor from GeoSoftware China delivered an academic lecture titled “Integrated Interpretation Technology System for Reservoir Geophysics” to faculty and students. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of Jason’s seismic inversion and reservoir characterization technologies (including rock physics analysis and depth-domain inversion), as well as HampsonRussell’s integrated interpretation tools (such as AVO analysis and GeoAI-based reservoir prediction). This technical system offers valuable support for teaching and research in geoscience-related programs and serves as an introductory guide to applying the software. The session included hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions.

After the ceremony, the GeoSoftware delegation visited several key facilities within the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, including the scanning electron microscopy lab, the ultra-clean sedimentary and geochemical lab, the high-temperature and high-pressure rock physics lab, and the rock mechanics and intelligent drilling & completion lab. The visitors expressed high appreciation for CDUT’s achievements in petroleum science and engineering. Leaders and faculty members from the State Key Laboratory and the Institute of Sedimentary Geology accompanied the tour.
