On May 16, a delegation led by Michele De Gasperis, President of the One Belt and One Road (OBOR) Italian Institute, visited Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) for a discussion aimed at deepening Sino-Italian educational and cultural ties. The visit was jointly coordinated with the Foreign Affairs Office of Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, with participation from CDUT’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the College of International Education, and the Business School.
Mr. Dong Yi, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of CDUT. He noted that China and Italy, as representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, have continued to deepen cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, in which the OBOR Italian Institute has played a crucial role as a bridge. CDUT, he added, has made notable progress in international engagement and innovation in recent years, and sees this meeting as a timely opportunity to broaden partnerships with Italian universities.
Mr. De Gasperis spoke highly of CDUT’s achievements in internationalization. He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to fostering academic and research cooperation between China and Italy. By connecting Italian universities and research institutions, the Institute continuously expands areas of collaboration, fostering multi-sector partnerships between the two countries.
Prof. Wu Xu, Associate Dean of CDUT’s Business School, gave an overview of the school’s development and proposed further collaboration in research and talent development. Mr. De Gasperis responded with enthusiasm, expressing readiness to facilitate direct institutional ties between Italian universities and CDUT.
Following the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by staff from the College of International Education, toured key laboratories and teaching facilities, gaining a firsthand impression of the university’s scientific capabilities and educational environment. Organized by the College of International Education, the visit served as a meaningful step toward closer institutional ties and added academic depth to the ongoing implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
