On April 24, 2025, a delegation from the Victorian Government Trade and Investment Office, along with representatives from La Trobe University, visited the College of International Education (Oxford Brookes College) at Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT). The two sides held in-depth discussions on talent cultivation, research collaboration, and short-term exchange programs. The meeting was chaired by Professor Li Shan, Dean of the College of International Education.
Dean Li warmly welcomed the delegation and gave a detailed introduction to the university’s development history, academic strengths, achievements in talent cultivation, and research accomplishments. She also outlined the university’s plans and goals for international education collaboration. Dean Li noted that in recent years, CDUT has continued to deepen international cooperation through initiatives such as hosting the 2024 University Presidents Exchange of Chengdu International Sister Cities Higher Education Institutions Alliance. She expressed hope that the meeting would further promote practical cooperation with Australian universities in areas such as joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and international student programs.
Ms. Vera Chen, Education Services Manager at the Victorian Government, highlighted Victoria’s rich higher education resources and the global reputation of its universities. She reaffirmed the Victorian Government’s commitment to promoting China-Australia educational collaboration. Ms. Ivy Xu, Greater China Director at La Trobe University, emphasized the university’s strong reputation as a leading research institution in Victoria. She noted that La Trobe ranks third in Australia for employer satisfaction and boasts a graduate employment rate of 93.7%, reflecting its practice-oriented educational approach. She also pointed out the strong alignment between La Trobe’s key disciplines—such as computer science, artificial intelligence, and archaeology—and CDUT’s academic strengths, offering promising opportunities for collaboration.
The two parties agreed to focus on advancing joint programs such as the “4+2” undergraduate-master’s pathway, the “3.5+0.5+1” segmented training model, and credit recognition. They will also promote joint research and co-education initiatives in key disciplines such as civil engineering and archaeology. In addition, both sides aim to accelerate the implementation of supportive measures, including scholarship opportunities and IELTS waivers for admission. This visit further solidified the shared commitment to collaboration. CDUT will continue to leverage platforms such as the Chengdu International Sister Cities Higher Education Institutions Alliance to expand cooperative efforts with Australian universities and enhance its international talent development capabilities.
