On September 24th, the UK Graduation Degree Ceremony for CDUT’s Sino-British Collaborative Education was successfully held in the International Academic Lecture Hall of Building Nine at CDUT. The ceremony was attended by Professor Xu Qiang, Vice President of CDUT, Professor Zeng Ying, Vice President of CDUT, Professor Hou Mingcai, Vice President of CDUT, Professor Zhou Zhongli, Vice President of CDUT, Professor Alistair Fitt, President of Oxford Brookes University (OBU), Professor Joe Tah, Vice President of OBU and Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment, Professor Tim Vorley, Vice President of OBU and Dean of the Business School, Professor Nigel Crook, Vice President of OBU and Vice Dean of Research for the Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment, Professor Sarah Quinton, Vice Dean of Research for the Business School, and Dr. Sara Hannam, Global Partnerships Representative of OBU. Graduating students, who were graduated in 2020 or will be graduated in 2023, along with their family and friends, as well as representatives from various departments of CDUT, also attended the degree conferral ceremony.

Professor Xu Qiang extended a warm welcome to the President and the delegation from OBU and offered hearty congratulations to all the graduating students. He emphasized that CDUT, in its 67 years of educational history, has been guided by national policies and has played a pivotal role in regional development strategies. In the context of the new development paradigm, CDUT is experiencing robust growth. The collaboration between CDUT and OBU is a significant milestone in both universities’ educational openness in the new era, in which we will jointly provide professional training to high-quality talents with cross-cultural backgrounds and international perspectives.
Professor Xu Qiang also expressed his expectations for the graduating students. First, he hoped that they would remain steadfast in their original intentions and serve the country and the people. Second, he hoped that the graduates would persevere, overcome challenges, and surmount difficulties. Third, he hoped that the graduates would be confident and composed enough to seize the opportunities of the times, to embrace the challenges of life, to become masters of their own lives, and to make contribution to the country.

Professor Alistair Fitt, President of OBU, conveyed warm congratulations to all the graduating students. He mentioned that OBU is a global institution with students coming from over 140 countries worldwide. OBU has been recognized as one of the world’s top universities in 19 subjects in the QS World University Rankings. These subjects include computer science and information systems, engineering, accounting and finance, as well as business and management research.
He highlighted that the collaboration between CDUT and OBU embraces a model that boosts complementary advantages of resource through cooperation. He encouraged the graduates to expand their perspectives of the world through learning and to be confident enough in the face of the future challenges.

Following this, Professor Alistair Fitt presented the degrees to the graduates. In his graduation speech, student representative Wu Xu shared his reflections on the unique experience of studying at CDUT Sino-British Collaborative Education. He emphasized how the institute allowed students to enjoy the academic exchange between China and the UK, offering a more diverse educational perspective. The interactive teaching methods used in the courses enriched their four years of university life and gave them the courage to explore the world. Wu Xu now works for a globally renowned financial company.
A parent representative explained the reasons for choosing CDUT Sino-British Collaborative Education for their children. First, the institute introduced high-quality international educational resources, enabling students to receive a top-tier international education within China. Second, the four years of diverse education exposed their children to a wealth of international cultures and different historical perspectives. Third, the inclusive educational philosophy of CDUT Sino-British Collaborative Education significantly improved their children’s independent thinking, empathy, reflective skills, and overall growth.
The graduation ceremony has concluded, and the graduates from CDUT and OBU are embarking on various career paths. Some will be working in banks, government, state-owned enterprises, educational institutions, and private companies, while others have chosen to pursue master’s degrees in top hundred QS-ranked universities. Graduation marks a new beginning in life, and it is hoped that each graduate will embark on their journey with boundless enthusiasm, unwavering determination, and a relentless pursuit of a bright future, and they will become highly qualified talents contributing to our country and society.
