On the afternoon of September 24th, CDUT and Oxford Brookes University (OBU) successfully convened the Joint Management Committee and Research Cooperation Meetings in the Meeting Room Three of the Administration Building. Zeng Ying, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of CDUT, as the Chair of the Sino-British Joint Management Committee, presided over the meeting, engaging in in-depth and candid discussions with members of the Joint Management Committee, including Alistair Fitt, President of OBU. Other participants in the meeting included Joe Tah, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment at OBU, Tim Vorley, Vice President and Dean of the Business School, Nigel Crook, Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment, Sarah Quinton, Associate Dean for Research in the Business School, Sara Hannam, Associate Dean for Strategy and Development and Global Partnership Representative in the Business School, Xie Jingru, Executive Representative for Collaborative Education at OBU, and other leaders from CDUT, including the Party Committee Graduate Work Department of CDUT, the Graduate School, the School of Management Science and Engineering, the Business School, the School of Computer Science and Network Security, and the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation.

The Committee Meeting

During the meeting, the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation reported on the recent achievements in the cooperative education, and Matt Ryan, Curriculum Supervisor of Sino-British Cooperative Education, presented an overview of British teaching activities conducted recently. Subsequently, Tim Vorley introduced the British research framework, and Joe Tah discussed the feasibility and implementation methods for research collaboration between the two universities.

Zeng Ying engaged in discussions with the British representatives of the Joint Management Committee on various aspects, including improving the quality of cooperative education, strengthening collaborative efforts, upgrading the level of cooperative education, bolstering the teaching staff for Sino-British cooperative education, expanding faculty and student exchange programs, and initiating joint research projects, reaching a series of agreements and consensus.

Based on the consensus reached regarding research collaboration by the Joint Management Committee, the delegation from OBU held two research collaboration seminars with representatives from CDUT. These seminars were attended by Dong Shuqian, Secretary of Party Committee in the School of Ecology and Environment, Hua Haiyan, Dean of the School of Business, leaders and experts from the School of Environmental and Civil Engineering, the School of Management Science, the School of Computer and Network Security, and the School of Ecology and Environment. During the two meetings, they discussed research collaboration frameworks, areas, modes, and initiation methods, and explored the establishment of research collaboration mechanisms, joint doctoral and postgraduate training, facilitation of research staff exchanges, joint research project applications, expansion of student exchanges, and industry-university-research cooperation. Afterward, both short-term and long-term action plans were formulated.

Furthermore, they also visited the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, laboratories in the School of Ecology and Environment, inspected the practical teaching system at the School of Business, and toured the newly completed laboratory building. These visits laid the foundation for promoting research collaboration and facilitating the integration and development of both universities’ advantageous disciplines.
