To implement the “the Belt and Road Initiative for Geoscience of CDUT” and to promote overseas cooperation with Universidad Central del Ecuador (UCE) in various realms, including research and academic exchange, and the joint training of high-level international talents, Professor Gustavo Raul Pinto Arteaga, Dean of FIGEMPA College, the largest college of UCE, paid a visit to our campus from October 17th to 19th. During this time, he had the honor of meeting with Mr. Liu Qingyou, Secretary of CDUT’s Party Committee. Accompanied by teachers from the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, Professor Pinto engaged in constructive discussions with representatives from various units, including the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, as well as the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures. Afterward, Professor Pinto, accompanied by teachers from the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, visited Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CCDC) of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a strategic partner shared by both our universities. This visit encompassed stops at the International Engineering Company, Drilling and Production Engineering Technology Research Institute, as well as Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality Supervision and Testing Research Institute of CCDC.
At 9:00 of October 17th, Professor Gustavo Raul Pinto Arteaga had a brief meeting with Mr. Liu Qingyou, Secretary of CDUT’s Party Committee. During the course of this meeting, Secretary Liu extended a warm welcome to Professor Pinto and emphasized the need for both universities to enhance collaboration and exchanges in education and research. Specific areas of cooperation, such as joint training of international graduate students, collaborative research projects, and the establishment of Chinese language courses, were highlighted for concrete implementation. Professor Pinto acknowledged the potential for tripartite broad cooperation among CDUT, UCE, and CCDC and the promising prospects for future endeavors. He also extended an invitation for a representative delegation from CDUT to visit UCE.

At 10:00, Professor Pinto visited the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation. He engaged in an informal discussion with the laboratory’s Vice Director, Mr. Li Zhiwu, along with other leaders and experts, including Ms. Zhu Haiyan, and Mr. Guo Bin, the Secretary of the Office of Foreign Affairs for the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection. The discussion, presided over by Mr. Li Zhiwu, began with a presentation by Ms. Li Shan, the Deputy Director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation. She introduced the current development of CDUT and conducted negotiations with Professor Pinto regarding the educational and research cooperation agreement between the two universities. Furthermore, she briefly reported on the plan for a delegation from our university to visit UCE. Ms. Zhu Haiyan and Mr. Guo Bin each presented an overview of the development of their respective state key laboratories. Professor Pinto provided insights into the current status of UCE and the school of Geological, Mining, Petroleum, and Environmental Engineering at UCE. The discussions encompassed laboratory development, scientific research cooperation, and joint graduate student training. Finally, Mr. Li Zhiwu presented Professor Pinto with a certificate for an honorary professorship. At 16:30, Professor Pinto and his delegation visited the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures. They held a meeting with Mr. Liu Yongzhi, Dean of the College, and Ms. Guo Fengming, the Associate Dean, and the head of the Chinese Language Curriculum Research Office. The discussions revolved around the development of a Chinese language proficiency curriculum. They also reached a consensus on providing logistical support for Chinese teachers heading to UCE for teaching.

On October 18th and 19th, Professor Pinto and his delegation visited the International Engineering Company, Drilling and Production Engineering Technology Research Institute, as well as Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality Supervision and Testing Research Institute of CCDC. During these visits, they engaged in discussions to further enhance the cooperation between the university and enterprises.
Professor Gustavo Raul Pinto Arteaga’s visit to CDUT deepened the collaboration between the two universities and strengthened our friendship, which holds significant promise for advancing the “the Belt and Road Initiative for Geoscience of CDUT”, expanding overseas educational initiatives, and providing services to international enterprises.
