On August 1, the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation CDUT held an online exchange meeting with the University of Antofagasta. Joaquin Saez, Assistant to the Director of the International Office of the University of Antofagasta, and representatives including Fan Xuanmei, Director of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation CDUT, Li Shan, Deputy Director, Dong Yi, chief of General Affairs Section, Chen Qian, chief of the International Students Section, attended the meeting, which was chaired by Jin Xin, Deputy Secretary-General of Sichuan SME Service Promotion.

The online exchange meeting

Li Shan provided a detailed introduction during the meeting about CDUT’s infrastructure, faculty and students, and research achievements. She also put forward suggestions for the collaboration between the two universities, hoping that both sides could engage in deeper cooperation through faculty and student exchanges, research collaboration, and other means.

Mr. Joaquin Saez, on behalf of the Director of the International Office of the University of Antofagasta, gave a brief introduction to the University of Antofagasta. The university is currently located in the Antofagasta Region of Chile, with 8 faculties and over 8,000 students. It is currently implementing an internationalization strategy and aims to strengthen communication and cooperation with universities overseas.

In addition, both sides also discussed specific matters such as faculty and student exchange and advanced studies, visits, and the signing of a university-level memorandum. They reached a preliminary consensus on cooperation.

It is reported that the University of Antofagasta is a public university located in the Antofagasta Region of Chile. It was founded in 1918 and was originally known as the Industrial School of Saltpeter. The University of Antofagasta was formed in 1981 via the fusion of two regional campuses of the nationwide state universities, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Tecnica del Estado. The university is dedicated to cultivating professionals with a sense of social responsibility and strong values, and it holds a leading position in teaching, research, and international cooperation. Notable alumni of the university include former Chilean President Sebastián Piñera and renowned writer Alberto Fuguet.
