In order to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation between Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) and international universities and enhance CDUT's international influence, an online exchange meeting was successfully held between the Department of International Exchange & Cooperation CDUT and the University of Westminster (UW) on June 26th. The meeting was attended by Stephen Wallis, director of Transnational Education, Gerda Wielander, associate head of the College of Liberal Arts, and Alexa Alfer, course leader for the MA Specialised Translation and MA Translation and Interpreting, from the UW side as well as Liu Yongzhi, dean of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, Li Shan, deputy director of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, Guo Fengming, associate dean of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, and Zhong Wei, deputy director of the MTI Education Center of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, from the CDUT side, and it was presided over by Zhong Wei.

In her speech, Li Shan presented basic information about CDUT and sincerely invited the personnel of UW to visit CDUT for further on-site exchanges. She expressed the hope that more high-level international talents could be jointly cultivated through exchanges, mutual learning and cooperation in teaching and research between both sides.

Liu Yongzhi presented the overall situation of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture of CDUT, including majors, faculty and discipline development, expressed the hope to invite relevant professors from UW to serve as visiting professors at the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, put forward the initiative of establishing a program of joint cultivation of doctoral students and hoped that both sides would sign a cooperation memorandum as soon as possible.

Then, Gerda Wielander briefly introduced the College of Liberal Arts of UW and stated that the College of Liberal Arts has many Chinese students who are diligent and eager to learn knowledge and perform well academically, and she welcomed students from the College of Foreign Languages & Culture of CDUT to apply.

Guo Fengming presented the postgraduate education of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture of CDUT and elaborated on the graduate programs, faculty, enrollment and study duration. She stated that the College of Foreign Languages & Culture of CDUT currently has two master's programs in Foreign Language and Literature and Interpreting and Translation and has a good foundation for postgraduate education cooperation with UW.

Next, Alexa Alfer also presented the situation of the Translation and Interpreting MA program at UW. She stated that the program has a long history, dating back to the 1960s, and UW continues to improve and innovate the cultivation mode and has many innovative measures for guiding students' employment and career planning, leading to good results in talent cultivation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed details of cooperation in teaching, research, joint talent cultivation, and exchanges and mutual visits of teachers and students and reached a preliminary cooperation intention.
It is learned that UW is a public comprehensive research university in the UK with a history of nearly two centuries. Its translation and interpreting-related program has first-class faculty and a sound curriculum system and provides abundant practice opportunities. Further, the program offers a Chinese-English translation course with the longest history in the UK. The program has one of the few courses in British universities that enjoys recognition by the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) and UW is a Higher Education Language partner of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. In addition, the translation and interpreting-related program constitutes the only designated talent cultivation base in the UK by the European Masters in Conference Interpreting (EMCI). Other international organizations that cooperate with the program include the United Nations Office at Geneva, the United Nations Office at Vienna, the European Union, the International Maritime Organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK. Many Chinese simultaneous interpretation experts studied at UW.
