Mr. Zhang Chi, Chief Representative of Ghent University, Belgium in Beijing, Visits CDUT
On the morning of May 8th, Mr. Zhang Chi, representative of Ghent University - East Asia, visited Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) on invitation and attended a symposium held in the Third Conference Room of the Administration Building. The symposium was also attended by personnel from CDUT, including Zeng Ying, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of CDUT, Fan Xuanmei, director of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, Liu Yongzhi, dean of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, Li Shan, deputy director of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, Guo Fengming, associate dean of the College of Foreign Languages & Culture, Deng Hui, associate dean of the College of Environmental and Civil Engineering, Zhou Yuan, associate dean of the College of Materials and Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Chen Xudong, associate dean of the College of Management Science, Zhao Ru, associate dean of the School of Marxism, Wu Xu, associate dean of the Business School, Tian Li, associate dean of the College of Communication Science and Art, Wang Quanfeng, associate dean of the College of Mathematics and Physics, and Deng Xingqiao, associate dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and it was presided over by Fan Xuanmei.

Zeng Ying extended a warm welcome to Mr. Zhang Chi in her speech. She presented CDUT's profile, advantageous disciplines, international cooperative education and overall strategy in detail. She expressed the hope to cultivate master's and doctoral students, conduct in-depth scientific research cooperation, actively promote exchanges and mutual visits of teachers and students, share academic resources and continuously deepen mutual friendship with Ghent University.

Mr. Zhang Chi presented the local customs and practices of Belgium and the development history, scale, faculties and philosophy of schooling of Ghent University. He elaborated on the Faculty of Bio-science Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Ghent University from perspectives of faculty settings and education staff. He expressed the hope that a resource platform could be built for both universities based on the "alumni association" and that both universities could conduct in-depth cooperation in major programs such as joint cultivation of doctoral students, exchange students, "3+2" and professors' academic visits.

Both sides exchanged views at the symposium. Chen Xudong discussed topics such as "exchange students" and "joint cultivation of doctoral students", and personnel from both sides explored program details in depth amid a warm atmosphere on site.

It is learned that Ghent University is a world-class research university and one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Belgium, cultivating a large number of top talents for the world. Founded in 1817, with a history of more than 200 years, Ghent University has a total of 11 faculties and 117 departments, with complete majors related to science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, law, economics, management, literature, arts, philosophy, history, sociology, etc.
The symposium is of great significance to promoting people-to-people and academic exchanges and interdisciplinary talent cultivation between China and Belgium and contributing to international academic dialogues. It also lays the foundation for in-depth cooperation between CDUT and Ghent University. In the future, CDUT will continue to advance exchanges and mutual visits and learning with international high-level universities, to further enhance its international influence.
