Source: DICE Date:2026.06.05

On April 25, 2026, the launch ceremony of Planet and the Planetary Science High-Level Forum were held at Chengdu University of Technology. As China’s first comprehensive international English-language academic journal dedicated to planetary science, the establishment of Planet marks a significant milestone in the development of China’s planetary science discipline and the independent advancement of its scientific publishing system.

The journal is jointly sponsored by Chengdu University of Technology and Higher Education Press and covers the full spectrum of planetary science research. It is co-edited by Academician Hou Zengqian and Professor Liu Yun, with Professor Zhao Yuyan serving as Executive Editor-in-Chief. The journal has established a distinguished international editorial board, ensuring strong academic authority and global influence.

In his congratulatory message to the launch ceremony, Academician Hou Zengqian emphasized that the journal will play a vital role in enhancing China’s international influence in planetary science and supporting the nation’s deep-space exploration strategy. During the event, distinguished guests jointly inaugurated the journal, while the accompanying Planetary Science High-Level Forum showcased China’s latest frontier research achievements in the field.

Planet fills a longstanding gap in China’s English-language academic publishing landscape for planetary science. Operating on an independently developed platform, the journal ensures autonomous control over intellectual property rights and core publishing technologies. Since its establishment, it has already published a number of high-quality research articles, demonstrating strong international visibility and communication impact. The journal has also been selected as a T2-level High-Quality Scientific and Technological Journal in China.

Looking ahead, Planet will focus on emerging frontiers in planetary science, bring together scholarly expertise from around the world, and strive to become a world-class scientific journal. Through these efforts, it aims to strengthen China’s international academic discourse in planetary science and provide robust intellectual support for the nation’s goal of becoming a global leader in space exploration.
