Recently, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) received a letter of appreciation from the Foundation of Li Siguang Prize for Geological Sciences, expressing sincere gratitude for the University’s strong support in promoting the scientific spirit of Li Siguang, advancing the public outreach and societal dissemination of scientific and technological achievements, and contributing to the successful organization of the themed exhibition “Light of Geology: Carrying Forward the Spirit of Li Siguang and Scaling New Scientific Heights.” The letter specifically noted the active support provided by the Museum of CDUT, highlighting the dedication, professionalism, and attentive service of its staff, which played a vital role in ensuring the success of the exhibition.

As CDUT marks the 70th anniversary of its founding, this recognition from the Foundation serves as both a strong affirmation and a great encouragement of the University’s long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting the spirit of Li Siguang, as well as its sustained efforts in geological education and scientific research. Over the past seven decades, guided by the spirit of Li Siguang, the University has remained steadfast in its mission to cultivate geological talent for the nation, advance geological science, and serve national strategic needs. These efforts have resulted in the training of eight academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as 36 recipients of the Li Siguang Prize for Geological Sciences and the Field Geology Award.
As a model of city–university collaboration, the Chengdu Natural History Museum (the Museum of CDUT) serves not only as an important base for public science education and youth outreach, but also as a key platform for preserving geological culture and promoting the spirit of scientists. The themed exhibition vividly presented Li Siguang’s scientific achievements and intellectual legacy, effectively inspiring the public—especially young audiences—to develop a deeper interest in and appreciation for geological sciences.
Looking ahead, the University will continue to take the spirit of Li Siguang as its guiding principle and uphold the fine tradition of perseverance and self-reliance. By striving for excellence in scientific research and nurturing more outstanding geological professionals, CDUT aims to make greater contributions in areas such as energy and mineral resource security, geohazard early warning and mitigation, and ecological and environmental restoration, and to work tirelessly to advance geological science.
