Source: DICE Date:2025.08.09

On the morning of July 16, a delegation from Sinopec Northwest China Petroleum Bureau visited Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) for an exchange and discussion meeting. Attendees included Mr. Cao Zicheng, Deputy General Manager of the Sinopec northwest branch, and Mr. Hou Mingcai, Vice President of CDUT. Relevant department heads and experts from the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, the College of Energy Resources (College of Modern Shale Gas Industry), the College of Geophysics, the Institute of Sedimentary Geology, the Institute of Science and Technology Development (Institute of Geological Survey), and the Office of Cooperation and Development also took part in the meeting.

Vice President Hou Mingcai highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence in areas such as geophysical exploration, intelligent reservoir identification and modeling, and dynamic optimization of development strategies. He noted that the university has a solid foundation in oil and gas exploration research and technical services, with notable research achievements. CDUT will continue to leverage its disciplinary strengths and talent resources to support the oilfield in overcoming technological bottlenecks and achieving high-quality development through robust scientific and talent support.

Deputy General Manager Cao Zicheng acknowledged recent breakthroughs in ultra-deep drilling at Northwest Oilfield, which has now surpassed 8,000 meters in depth. However, he pointed out that many challenges remain in precise modeling of diverse ultra-deep reservoirs, efficient development of fracture-cavity reservoirs, and engineering solutions for ultra-deep, high-temperature, high-pressure carbonate and fracture-cavity reservoirs. He expressed a strong hope for enhanced collaboration with CDUT to address these scientific and technical challenges, and to jointly advance breakthroughs in ultra-deep oil and gas exploration.

At the meeting, Mr. Wang Yang, Deputy Manager of Sinopec Northwest China Petroleum Bureau, presented an overview of the company, its recent innovations in deep-Earth exploration, and key focus areas for future development. Representatives from the participating colleges and institutes introduced their respective disciplines, technical strengths, and research teams.
