On the 21st of March, Liu Qingyou, Secretary of the Party Committee at CDUT, spearheaded a delegation to the Wuhan Center of the China Geological Survey. The visit, marked by engaging discussions and the exchange of ideas, culminated in the formal signing and plaque unveiling ceremony of the Joint Laboratory for Planetary Materials Analysis. The ceremony welcomed the presence of distinguished figures including Guo Xinghua, the Director of the Wuhan Center, alongside his deputies, Li Qinghua and Niu Zhijun. Additionally, leadership from multiple departments, the Institute for the Development of Science and Technology, the College of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and the President's Office at CDUT were in attendance.

At the Conference

At the plaque unveiling ceremony, Liu Qingyou and Guo Xinghua formalized their collaboration through the signing of the agreement for the Joint Laboratory for Planetary Materials Analysis. Liu articulated that planetary science represents a cutting-edge field at the crossroads of multiple disciplines, touching upon several vital domains and standing as a cornerstone in the nations strategic developmental blueprint. To meet the acute demand for specialized talent in planetary science research, CDUT pioneered the establishment of our country's inaugural undergraduate program in planetary science in 2020. CDUT has been at the forefront of publishing planetary science textbooks and trailblazing the cultivation of exceptional talents in this domain. CDUT's planetary science research team has actively contributed to the conceptualization and design phases of ambitious deep-space missions, including lunar and Martian expeditions. Its members have led significant projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, delving into critical research on the genesis and surface evolution of Earth-like planets. These endeavors have culminated in the publication of seminal research findings in premier international academic periodicals, marking CDUTs significant contribution to the global scientific community.

Signing Ceremony

In the midst of their discussion and exchange, Liu Qingyou extended his deepest appreciation to the Wuhan Center for its unwavering support and attention to CDUT over the years. He highlighted that the enduring partnership had not only cultivated a profound bond but also propelled both parties toward collective advancement, evidenced by their prominent collaborations in research projects and talent development, among others, forging a deep-seated camaraderie. Looking ahead, Liu envisioned the establishment of the Joint Laboratory for Planetary Materials Analysis as a pivotal milestone, heralding a new chapter for both parties to synergize their capabilities more effectively. He advocated for enhanced collaboration in cultivating elite talents, pushing the boundaries of scientific inquiry, engaging in international partnerships, pursuing project grants, and spearheading lab initiatives. Through this concerted effort, they are poised to contribute more significantly to our nation's ambitious exploration endeavors in the vast frontiers of the deep sea, outer space, and the earth's depths, further cementing their commitment to spearheading technological sovereignty and resilience.

While in Wuhan, Liu Qingyou, alongside his delegation, took the opportunity to reconnect with CDUT alumni based in the city. Their visit included an enlightening tour of the Sea Dragon Museum and laboratories at the Wuhan Center.
