A signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation agreement between Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT), the Technical Centre for Soil, Agriculture and Rural Ecology and Environment, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment), and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) has recently been held in Chengdu. The signing ceremony was attended by Hong Yaxiong, secretary of the Party Committee and director of the Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Xi Beidou, vice president of the CRAES, Li Chunhong, secretary-general of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Peng Yong, CPC Leading Group member and deputy head of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Sichuan Province, Wang Wenjie, chief engineer of the Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Liu Qingyou, vice secretary of the Party Committee and president of CDUT, Hu Bing, vice secretary of the Party Committee of CDUT, and Xu Qiang and Zeng Ying, vice presidents of CDUT, along with heads of relevant units from the Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the CRAES and CDUT.

According to the agreement, closely around the requirements of the national ecological and environmental protection strategy, CDUT will have in-depth and practical cooperation with the Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the CRAES in aspects including sci-tech innovation, achievement transformation, technical services and talent cultivation; oriented toward ecological and environmental issues and demands, through multidisciplinary integration, they will focus on the R&D and application of high and new technologies for environmental protection, jointly conduct innovative and basic scientific research on major ecological and environmental protection projects and work to provide solutions for regional ecological and environmental problems.
As a public institution directly under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Soil Centre of Ministry of Ecology and Environment engages in regulatory technical support and services for soil, agriculture, rural and groundwater ecology and environment. Its tasks include researching and drawing up regulatory policies, plans, regulations, standards and specifications for soil, agriculture, rural and groundwater ecology and environment, conducting investigations, assessments and situation analyses related to soil, agriculture, rural and groundwater ecology and environment as well as providing technical support for ecological and environmental supervision and administration in aspects of agricultural land, polluted plots, industrial and mining land, agriculture and rural areas and groundwater.
Affiliated with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the CRAES is a national-level nonprofit environmental protection research institution that conducts innovative and basic scientific research on major environmental protection projects around the national sustainable development strategy, is committed to providing strategic, forward-looking and overall sci-tech support for China's economic and social development and environmental decision-making, and serves the engineering technology and consulting needs related to major environmental issues in economic and social development.
