CDUT Takes the Lead in Two Geothermal Projects that will Contribute to the National Strategies and Development
On February 19th, Kick-off Meetings of the Project "Production-Education Integration Demonstration for the Comprehensive Development and Utilization of Geothermal Resources in Sichuan Province" and the Strategic Consulting Project "Research on the Potential and Development and Utilization Strategy of China's Marine Geothermal Resources" of the China Academy of Engineering (CAE) were held in Chengdu. The two projects will be led by Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT).
Relevant academicians and experts from China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), CNOOC Research Institute, SINOPEC Southwest Oil & Gas Company, PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company, etc. attended the kick-off meetings, and other participants included leaders from Dongfang Electric Corporation, China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina), China Coal Research Institute, Sichuan University, China University of Petroleum (East China) and Southwest Petroleum University as well as experts and scholars in related fields from CDUT. Gong Hao, secretary of the CDUT Party Committee, said in his speech that the project Research on the Potential and Development and Utilization Strategy of China's Marine Geothermal Resources, presided over by Academician Dorji and undertaken by CDUT, focuses on resource-rich points, technical difficulties, utilization merits and equipment bottlenecks and aims to provide a strategic decision-making basis for marine resource development and island and reef energy security and accelerate the construction of the new marine energy system, the marine industry and the marine ecological civilization.

Jointly applied for by CDUT and SINOPEC Southwest Oil & Gas Company, the project Production-Education Integration Demonstration for the Comprehensive Development and Utilization of Geothermal Resources in Sichuan Province aims to build a cultivation ground for geothermal industry talents, a highland for sci-tech innovation and a base for achievement transformation, provide talent and technical support for the province's geothermal industry and promote the high-quality development of the geothermal industry.
He emphasized that the Party and the State highly value the strategy of marine power and the production-education integrated development, and CDUT, a university included in the "double first-class" project, always adheres to the requirements for technological innovation in four aspects and serves the country's most fundamental interests, and CDUT has launched the Everest Scientific Research Project to accelerate the output of high-level results in related fields.
At the Kick-off Meeting of the Project "Production-Education Integration Demonstration for the Comprehensive Development and Utilization of Geothermal Resources in Sichuan Province", Professor Song Rongcai from CDUT overall presented the project from five aspects: project construction background and content, construction goals and implementation measures, platform building and task breakdown, team and work techniques, and expected results.

A video on the utilization of geothermal energy from discarded oil-gas fields in the UK was played at the meeting. Professor Sun Zhixue from China University of Petroleum (East China) made a presentation on the whole-process construction plan for the digital development of geothermal resources in geothermal fields. Gu Zhanyu from SINOPEC Southwest Oil & Gas Company presented an implementation plan for geothermal resource development and utilization in Western Sichuan. Wei Guofeng from PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company made a presentation on the geothermal development and utilization of produced water from Moxi X210 in Central Sichuan.
Academicians and experts at the meeting listened carefully to the presentations of the project team, had in-depth discussions and made constructive comments.

Professor Song Rongcai from CDUT, Senior Engineer Pang Weixin from CNOOC Research Institute, Senior Engineer Zheng Hua'an from CNOOC Hainan Branch and Professor Zhu Haiyan from CDUT made presentations on the strategic research on the potential of China's marine geothermal resources, the strategic research on the joint development of China's marine geothermal and natural gas hydrate resources, the strategic research on the comprehensive utilization of China's marine geothermal resources and the strategic research on China's marine geothermal development equipment, respectively.
