At the invitation of Professor Pei Xiangjun, Dean of the School of Ecological Environment of Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT), many renowned experts in ecological environment field made a visit to CDUT and guided the “Everest Scientific Research Project” on August 22. The distinguished guests include Professor Xu Zuxin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Li Huaizheng, Professor Yin Hailong, Associate Professor Jin Wei from Tongji University, Professor Huang Fang from University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Tang Ya from Sichuan University, Researcher Liu Qing from Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Ni Shijun, the former president of CDUT and Professor Wang Yunsheng.
In the morning, Professor Pei Xiangjun, one of the chief scientists of the “Everest Scientific Research Project” made a report on “Full Life Cycle of Major Projects on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: the Mutual Feedback Principle of Ecological and Geological Environment and Key Restoration Techniques during Engineering Excavation and Filling”. Besides, a report on the “Research on the Multimedia Migration and Transformation Mechanism of Heavy Metals in Large Mines on the Eastern Edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau” was made by the Professor Huang Yi. Then experts such as Academician Xu Zuxin made comments on the research objectives, contents and plans as well as scientific problems to be solved of the two above “Everest Scientific Research Projects” reports respectively, and spoke highly of the project, which has played an important role in clarifying the tricky problems, for instance, the impact of the construction of major projects such as the Sichuan-Tibet Railway and the mineral resources development on ecological environment.
In the afternoon, Academician Xu Zuxin gave a report entitled “Evaluation Report on the Implementation of the ‘Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law’ ”. In her report, Academician Xu made an introduction to teachers and students the legislation background of the updated the “Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law”, the achievements, deficiencies and corresponding legal measures of water pollution prevention and control in China in a simple way based on detailed research data. The report was so impressive that the teachers and students present were attracted by Academician Xu’s enthusiasm for scientific research and academic achievements in the comprehensive improvement of urban water environment.
Academician Xu has been committed to the China’s comprehensive improvement of the urban water environment, working hard on the front line of the project. She led her scientific research team to participate in numerous comprehensive improvement of the urban water environment in our country, and researched a number of core technologies for urban river pollution control for our country and some other developing countries, which contributed a lot to the battle against water pollution in my country. What’s more, she showed the world China’s river governance model and some best practices in the “UN-HABITAT special technical report” compiled by her, which enhanced the international influence of China’s water governance model and received the appreciation of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
