To commemorate the 13th anniversary of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection (hereinafter referred to as SKLGP) of the Chengdu University of Technology（CDUT） carried out a series of activities on open week from May 10 to 14 following the theme of 2021 National Day for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, "Preventing and Resolving Disaster Risks and Building a Solid Foundation for Sound Development".
01 Retracing the traces of the Beichuan earthquake for 13 years
On May 9, 2021, students and teachers of SKLGP took a field trip to retrace the traces of the Beichuan earthquake 13 years ago. The trip started from Renjiaping Village and ended at the site of the old Beichuan County. It has taken 13 years for the Laboratory to explore the traces and advances and progress in earthquake prevention and mitigation have been made. In 13 years, we have been passing on and developing professional knowledge in geology and our commitment to serving the country through exploration in science.

03 A High-level Roundtable Dialogue, Science for Policy on Disaster Risk Reduction in Mountain Regions
In the afternoon of May 12, 2021, Roundtable Dialogue, Science for Policy on Disaster Risk Reduction in Mountain Regions: To commemorate the 13th Anniversary of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake was held in Conference Room 318 of SKLGP. The forum was broadcasted live online and offline, aiming to respond to the "Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030" of the United Nations General Assembly and the program on Climate, Ecosystems and Livelihoods (CEL) initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), gather the wisdom of global scholars, improve disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities in disaster-stricken areas, contribute to ecological protection, and build a society where people and nature live in harmony.

04 Scientific and Technological Innovation Forum on Natural Hazards Prevention and Control
The sixth session of the Science and Technology Forum on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, which was guided by the China Association for Disaster Prevention and co-sponsored by the National Institute of Natural Hazards and Committee of Multiple Space/Sky/Terrestrial Information and Integrated Technology for Disaster Mitigation, was successfully held. 06 Activities on the open week of SKLGP
Organs of the Communist Youth League of China of Sichuan Province and Chongqing City, teams of the Hehuachi Primary School and the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of CDUT visited SKLGP from May11-16, 2021. We thoroughly studied and fully implemented the guiding principles, which are proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the Party History Study and Mobilization Conference on Party History Study and Education, and Xi’s important remarks on disaster prevention, reduction and relief. Visitors also went into the large-scale lab with a debris flow simulation device and truly experienced the causes and hazards of geological disasters such as debris flow through simulations, demonstrations and listening to explanations.

In Cangxi Suburbs Middle School, Mr. Huang Jian, a researcher of SKLGP, gave a lecture on science popularization and interaction related to geohazards by distributing cultural and creative notebooks and science popularization handbooks to the students here. The lecture stimulated the children's desire to learn disaster knowledge and the aspiration to be the guardian of mountains.
Through a series of activities in the open week, we remembered our departed compatriots, strengthened our knowledge of geohazards prevention and mitigation, and understood the evolution of the ecological geoenvironment of Wenchuan 13 years after the 2008 earthquake.
In the future, adhering to the original aspiration of serving the country with science, SKLGP will promote scientific and technological progress and discipline development in the field of disaster prevention and control, environmental protection. We will accumulate basic scientific data, materials and information for the national needs of preventing and mitigating geohazards, guaranteeing economic activities and social public safety, and building a harmonious society. In addition, we will keep providing a scientific basis and shared services for national macroeconomic decision-making.
