Wen Huaguo, male, Han ethnicity, born in December 1979, native of Wanzhou District, Chongqing, joined the CPC in June 2001, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor. He is responsible for science and technology development, civil-military integration, cooperation and development, targeted assistance for rural revitalization, alumni affairs, academic journals, and science park management; he also assists in overseeing confidential work.
He studied for his undergraduate degree from September 1998 to June 2002 at Hunan University of Science and Technology (formerly Xiangtan Institute of Technology), majoring in Exploration Technology and Engineering, earning a Bachelor's degree. From September 2002 to June 2008, he studied at Chengdu University of Technology, majoring in Mineralogy, Petrology, and Mineral Deposit Geology, and Sedimentology, earning Master's and Ph.D. degrees. Since July 2008, he has been teaching at Chengdu University of Technology, successively serving as Deputy Director of the Sedimentary Geology Department, Director of the Sedimentary Geology Laboratory, responsible person for teaching and research, Deputy Dean of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology, Dean of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology, Director of the Admissions and Employment Office, and Dean of the Graduate School. During this period, he worked at the Postdoctoral Station for Geological Resources and Geological Engineering at Chengdu University of Technology from October 2008 to August 2010, served as a visiting scholar at the University of Regina, Canada from December 2016 to August 2017, and held a temporary post as a member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Deyang Economic and Technological Development Zone from July 2024 to July 2025. Since January 2026, he has served as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chengdu University of Technology Committee and Vice President of the university.
He is mainly engaged in teaching and research on reservoir sedimentology and oil and gas exploration. He has led nearly 100 projects, including general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, tasks of National Science and Technology Major Projects for Oil and Gas, National Geological Survey projects, and enterprise cooperation projects, as well as Sichuan Provincial Curriculum Ideological and Political Demonstration Projects, and key projects of the Sichuan Graduate Education Model Reform and Innovation Program. His research findings have resulted in the publication of over 150 academic papers in journals such as Earth-Science Reviews, GSA Bulletin, and Sedimentology, and the publication of 9 textbooks and monographs. He has been granted 6 international invention patents and 18 national invention patents. He has received 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 Qiushi Outstanding Youth Achievement Transformation Award from the China Association for Science and Technology, 1 first prize of the Sichuan Provincial Education and Teaching Achievement Award, 1 first prize of the Invention, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Award from the China Invention Association, 2 first prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award from the China Petroleum and Chemical Automation Industry, and 1 gold medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. He concurrently serves as a council member of the International Palaeogeography Society, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Deep-time Geography and Environmental Reconstruction and Application of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Carbonate Reservoirs, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Deputy Secretary-General of the Sichuan Petroleum Society, and leader of the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Team for the Material Basis of Natural Gas Accumulation. He serves on the editorial boards of journals including Sedimentary Geology, Natural Gas Industry, Marine Origin Petroleum Geology, Sedimentary Geology and Tethyan Geology, and Lithologic Reservoirs. He has been selected as a Sichuan Provincial Academic and Technology Leader, a member of the Sichuan Tianfu Ten Thousand Talents Plan, and a high-level leading scientific and technological talent of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
