Humanity and Social Sciences
Always adhering to Marxism as the guide and the guiding position of Marxism in philosophy and social sciences, Chengdu University of Technology has thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's "May 17" important speech and the Opinions of the CPC Central Committee on Accelerating the Construction of Philosophy and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics (ZF [ 2017] No. 8) and the Opinions of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee on Accelerating the Construction of Philosophy and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics (CWF [2017] No. 38). Guided by the building of CDUT into "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines", with the "five high levels" as the objective, based on the needs of national and social development, the University has made efforts to promote the development of philosophy and social sciences with special characteristics, and has made remarkable achievements in scientific research, talent training, discipline construction and social services.
Faculty: As of 2018, the University has eight liberal arts colleges, including the School of Marxism, School of Law, Business School, College of Management Science, College of Tourism and Urban-Rural Planning, College of Foreign Languages & Cultures, College of Communication Science and Art, and College of Physical Education, with 655 full-time teachers in the humanities and social sciences, accounting for 35% of the total number of teachers in the University. Among them, 523 teachers have master's or doctoral degrees or above, accounting for 80% of the total number of full-time teachers in humanities and social sciences; 272 teachers have senior titles, accounting for 41.5% of the total number of full-time teachers in humanities and social sciences. Among the humanities and social science experts in the university, there is 1 expert who enjoys the special allowance of the State Council, 3 outstanding experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan Province, 3 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 18 reserve candidates for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 1 advanced worker in Sichuan Province, 1 outstanding educator in Sichuan Province, 1 Tianfu elite of "Tianfu Ten Thousand Talents Program" in Sichuan Province, 2 outstanding teachers in Sichuan Province.
Team Building: At present, the university has 24 teaching and research teams in various humanities and social sciences, including 2 "demonstrative school of Marxism and excellent teaching and research teams of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education", 1 "high-level research team of social sciences in Sichuan Province", 2 "scientific research innovation teams of Education Department of Sichuan Province", and 19 university-level teaching and research teams.
Discipline Distribution: The university currently has 5 primary disciplines including Management Science and Engineering (Ph.D.), Business Administration, Marxist Theory, and Applied Economics, and 5 secondary disciplines including Business Management, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Communication, Tourism Management and Philosophy of Science and Technology. There are 24 doctoral candidates in primary disciplines, 256 students of academic master's studies in primary disciplines, 243 students of master's studies in secondary disciplines, and 232 students of professional master's studies. In addition, the university has 1 postdoctoral research station and 1 doctoral degree authorization point in the primary discipline of Management Science and Engineering.
Platform Construction: The university currently has 2 Sichuan Provincial key research bases in philosophy and social sciences, including the Sichuan Mineral Resources Research Center and the National Park Research Center (Extension), 1 Sichuan Provincial social science popularization base, namely, the "Resource and Environmental Economics Popularization Base", and 7 key research bases at the university level. It also has 1 new type of think tank in Sichuan Province, the "Natural Disaster Prevention and Environmental Protection Research Think Tank". Among them, the Natural Disaster Prevention and Environmental Protection Research Think Tank and the Sichuan Mineral Resources Research Center have been selected as source think tanks for the China Think Tank Index (CTTI), and the Natural Disaster Prevention and Environmental Protection Research Think Tank has also been named as one of the top 100 university think tanks for the China Think Tank Index (CTTI).
Scientific Research: Since 2011, the university has been approved to set up 40 national projects, including 36 projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China, 2 projects sponsored by the China National Arts Fund, 1 project funded by the National Soft Science Research Program and 1 sub-project of a major bidding project sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China; 33 humanities and social sciences research projects of the Ministry of Education, including 24 annual projects and 9 various special projects; and 148 provincial projects with funding of RMB 4,231,000.
Scientific Research Achievements and Awards: As of 2018, the university has published 14 papers in SSCI journals, 614 papers that can be retrieved by CSSCI, and 147 monographs, and has won 29 awards for outstanding achievements in social sciences in Sichuan Province, including 2 first prizes, 1 second prize and 26 third prizes; and 5 social applications of the university have been approved. The philosophy and social sciences in the university have developed rapidly and have entered the fast lane of development.
Development Potential and Direction: Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the spirit conveyed by General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speeches on the development of philosophy and social sciences has pointed out the direction and provided the guidelines for the development of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities; The Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Accelerating the Construction of Philosophy and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics, the Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Further Strengthening and Improving the Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities under the New Situation and other important documents have provided practical guidance for the development of philosophy and social sciences in our university; Implementation Opinions of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee on Accelerating the Construction of Philosophy and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics (CWF [2017] No.38) has constituted a Sichuan chapter to promote the development of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities in Sichuan Province; The theoretical research of the new era, new ideas and new problems provides a great realistic demand for the development of philosophy and social sciences; The rapid development of philosophy and social sciences in the university and the building of the university into "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines" have laid a solid foundation for accelerating philosophy and social sciences in the university to a new level. Although the development of philosophy and social sciences in the university has a late start and a poor foundation, and the contradiction between the bottleneck of talents and the inadequate and unbalanced development of disciplines is very prominent, the university has great potential for future development, and will seize the opportunity to rise to the challenge, adhere to the guiding position of Marxism in the development of philosophy and social sciences, follow the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, accelerate the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics as the focus, and strive to promote the university to achieve greater achievements in five areas: "high-level scientific research, high-level output and application of results, high-level award-winning achievements, high-level research platforms, and high-level personnel training".
