On August 15th, a delegation of 24 members led by Academician Wang Jiming and Academician Hu Wenrui from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with their research team from the "Super Engineering Research," visited CDUT to organize and conduct a seminar for the editing and review of the World Ancient Super Engineering Rankings. The seminar took place in the third conference room of the administrative building. Professor Liu Qingyou, the president of CDUT and Vice Secretary of CDUT’s Party Committee, and Professor Xu Qiang, a vice president of CDUT, attended the seminar. Representatives from the faculty team of CDUT’s College of Environment and Civil Engineering’s Geological Engineering Department, National Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, and State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection also participated. The seminar was chaired by Professor Wang Junren, former General Manager of CNPC West Africa.

During the seminar, Liu Qingyou conveyed a warm welcome and heartfelt appreciation to all the esteemed guests for their attendance, as he delivered his opening speech. He expressed his enthusiasm about CDUT's role as a member of the Super Engineering Research team, contributing to the completion of this significant theoretical and academic research project. He mentioned that CDUT has always been guided by national strategic needs and has participated in major engineering projects such as transmitting electricity from the west to the east, transporting gas from the west to the east, diverting water from the south to the north, Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Sichuan-Tibet Railway, oil and gas exploration, energy development, mineral exploration, large-scale hydropower, environmental protection, ecological restoration, new energy, and applications of new materials. These endeavors have provided a solid theoretical and practical foundation for research related to super engineering. Liu Qingyou warmly encouraged frequent visits to CDUT for guidance and emphasized the importance of fostering increased exchanges and deeper cooperation across diverse fields.
Representatives from teams including CNPC, Northeastern University, Peking University, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Hefei University of Technology, HBIS GroupCo., Tangren Culture, China Science Publishing & Media Ltd., as well as Chengdu University of Technology, enthusiastically delivered speeches during the discussion session, offering insights and direction for the research on the World Ancient Super Engineering Rankings.
In the presence of the attendees, Vice Director Xu Te from NEU’s Data Analytics and Optimization and Associate Director Fan Xuanmei from CDUT's State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, representing their respective institutions, signed a cooperation agreement for the research on the "World Ancient Super Engineering Rankings."
It is reported that the "Super Engineering Research" is a significant strategic consultation research project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a key supported research project by the National High-end Think Tank of CNPC. This project is acclaimed as a groundbreaking academic research that fills a gap in the field of engineering, both nationally and globally, and holds significant academic value and practical significance. The compiled cases in the "Super Engineering Research" cover over 500 super engineering projects, spanning from modern and ancient China to modern and ancient world projects.
To further enhance and extend the research efforts, with CNPC's funding support, a research project titled "Research and Rankings of Super Engineering" has been established. The team for the "Super Engineering Research" project is composed of 33 academicians, including Hu Wenrui, Wang Jiming, Liu He, Tang Lixin, Yin Ruiyu, among others. Additionally, 14 academicians, such as Xu Kuangdi, He Huawu, Zhu Gaofeng, Fu Zhihuan, and Sun Yongfu, have been appointed as the chief consultants for the project. CDUT was involved in the initial writing of some cases. As entrusted by the project team, CDUT will undertake the editing, reviewing, and related research work for the "World Ancient Super Engineering Rankings."
