On April 20th, 2024, the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (CMC) concluded at Shandong University's central campus. Three students from Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) participated with courage and composure, achieving remarkable results. Following the 14th competition, they once again set a new record: Mei Wentao, a senior student majoring in Electrical Engineering and Automation, won the national first prize in the non-mathematics major group; Huang Tairui, also a senior student majoring in Accounting, won the national second prize in the non-mathematics major group; Xing Chenkai, a junior student majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, won the national second prize in the junior & senior group for mathematics major.
CDUT attaches great importance to the Chinese Mathematics Competitions, providing strong support for event organization and participation funding. The College of Mathematics and Physics took charge of the specific organization of the competition. Through careful coordination by the Academic Affairs Office, College of Mathematics and Physics, and cooperation from various colleges, a total of 1,013 students from CDUT registered for the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competitions. The preliminary competition in the Sichuan region was held on November 11th, 2023, with a total of 11,346 candidates from 45 universities in the province, including Sichuan University (SCU) and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). More than 10 sub-venues were set up, including the Chengdu campus and Yibin campus of CDUT. The Chengdu campus venue was responsible for organizing the exams for 1,057 candidates from 12 provincial universities, including Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU), while the Yibin campus venue was responsible for 589 candidates from 6 provincial universities, including Sichuan University of Science and Engineering (SUSE). A total of 297 students from CDUT received awards (including 85 in the mathematics major category), with 63 first prizes, 101 second prizes, and 133 third prizes. The number of award winners and the number of first prizes both achieved the best results since CDUT participated in the competition.
The CMC, sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society, is a national high-level discipline competition for undergraduate students aimed at inspiring students' interest in mathematics and cultivating their ability to analyze and solve problems. It provides a platform for young students to demonstrate their mathematical thinking and learning achievements. The CMC was first held in 2009 and has been held annually since then. Hosted by major universities across the country, the competition has been successfully held for fifteen sessions, with a cumulative total of 1.8 million participants. It has become one of the most influential discipline competitions in the country. The 15th CMC was hosted by Shandong University (SDU) and had 32 sub-venues with 1,108 participating universities and a total of 288,355 registered participants.
