On the evening of August 6th, a “Chinese Martial Arts” themed exhibition and performance took place at the Center of Chinese & ASEAN Arts in the Village of FISU World University Games. The exhibition and performance, organized by the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) and co-hosted by various entities including the Publicity Department of GASC, The Press, Chinese Sports Press Association, Education Department of Sichuan Province, and Chengdu Federation of Literary and Art Circles, aimed to facilitate the World University Interactive Event. Attended by more than 240 students from six universities within Sichuan, the exhibition unveiled the rich tradition of Chinese martial arts. Prominent contribution has been made to this captivating event by CDUT’s martial arts performance team, which was led by Ju Nengpan, the Secretary of the Party Committee of CDUT and the Vice President of CDUT, guided by Wen Ye, Dean of the College of Physical Education, and instructed by two teachers, Zeng Xiaorui and Ma Wenjing.

Turning Stars, an original martial arts show created by CDUT, brought a captivating visual feast to the audience, seamlessly blending culture, art, and sports. On the stage, 23 students from CDUT donned exquisite martial arts attire, demonstrating the essence of Chinese martial arts with a spirited demeanor and superb martial skills. They showcased the contemporary style of Chinese university students, winning enthusiastic applause from both domestic and international athletes and spectators. Following the “Opening Ceremony in the Village” on July 29th, CDUT's martial arts performance team once again fascinated the audience from all over the world with the brilliance of mesmerizing Chinese traditional culture and CDUT’s spirit of ascent.

As the performance began, in the high-altitude back-stepping performance with escalating difficulty, three students displayed agile and powerful movements. Each leap was imbued with strength and grace, manifesting a spirit of fearlessness in the face of challenges and the determination to conquer all the odds. The audience was entranced by their performance, which held their gaze throughout.

With the magnificent background music, the collective performances took turns on the stage, including Nanquan (a classification of Chinese martial arts that originated in Southern China) performance, Podao (a Chinese single-edged infantry weapon that is still used primarily for training in various Chinese martial arts) performance, Dao (a single-edged Chinese sword) performance, and several other traditional single weapon performances. The blades resembled the fangs of fierce tigers, the swords soared like phoenixes, the staffs swept so ferociously as if they could wallop an entire army, and each move generated a gust of wind. The excellent performance brought the atmosphere to a climax, fully revealing the charm of traditional Chinese martial arts.

Prior to the performance, Ju Nengpan, the Secretary of the Party Committee of CDUT and the Vice President of CDUT, visited and extended his regards to the participating students, warmly inquiring about their training and physical conditions. He emphasized that CDUT has always been attaching great importance to physical education, caring for students' healthy growth and comprehensive development. The Party Committee of CDUT highly valued and fully supported the exhibition, considering it a review of CDUT's achievements in quality education. The success of the performance is inseparable from the efforts of each student and the dedication of all teachers. He encouraged everyone to continue to strive for enhancing their skills and improving their comprehensive qualities, and also to carry forward the spirits of both Chinese sports and ascent. He hoped that more students of CDUT would become not only outstanding disseminators of Chinese traditional culture, but also practitioners of the cultural concept, “Strive for a Better CDUT with Sports”, as well as participants in actualizing the Outline for Building a Leading Sports Nation and advancing the Healthy China initiative.
