"Top Ten Science Popularization Figures of 2022"

The special program, "Dianzan • 2022 China Science Communication" unveiling ceremony, has recently been broadcast on CCTV General Channel CCTV-1, where the top ten science popularization figures, works and events and the list of ten rumors refuted based on science of 2022 were unveiled. Alumna Han Xiqiu of Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT), who was a Geology major in the Class of 1986, was selected as one of the "Top Ten Science Popularization Figures of 2022".

As the first female chief scientist in the ocean scientific expedition history of China, Han Xiqiu has successively participated in 19 ocean scientific expeditions to three oceans in the world. While fulfilling her research duties, based on her nearly 30 years of research accumulation, she often shares rarely seen first-hand deep-sea scientific expedition discoveries with the public via various channels, platforms and ways. In her 30 years with the sea, Han Xiqiu has been portraying the ocean floor, discovering treasures for her homeland and using science to depict a wonderful blue dream in science popularization activities.

"Dianzan • China Science Communication" is an annual event hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology to select typical science popularization cases of the year. Started in 2015, it has been held for eight consecutive sessions and, by reviewing science popularization figures, works and events and rumors of the year, it has played a positive role in promoting the scientific quality improvement of the public and become one of the most influential and authoritative brand activities in science popularization. In the "Dianzan • 2022 China Science Communication" selection, a total of 174 entities, including relevant ministries and commissions, central enterprises, national societies and provincial associations for science and technology, participated in the recommendation, and a total of 1,213 projects participated in the selection, creating another historic high.
