The 2025 International Conference on English Teaching and Research in Sino-Foreign Joint Education wrapped up in Beijing on November 23, bringing together nearly 280 scholars from 106 universities and institutions across 13 countries. Co-hosted by Beijing University of Technology and University College Dublin (UCD), the event focused on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in English teaching under Sino-foreign joint education models.
Senior officials and representatives—including Wei Xubin, Member of the Education Commission of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Party An Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange; Zhang Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing University of Technology; and Prof. Paul Fanning, UCD International Dean for China and Provost of the Beijing-Dublin International College—attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks.
Keynote speakers from institutions such as the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and NYU Shanghai addressed topics ranging from technological shifts in academic English to faculty development and outcome-based curriculum design.

Three parallel sub-forums focused on EAP Teaching Models and Intercultural Competence, AI-empowered English Teaching, and Teacher Development and Collaboration. These discussions encouraged lively academic exchange and generated a vibrant collision of ideas. CDUT Oxford Brookes College’s foreign faculty members—Alex Boyle, James Wood, and James Gilbert—attended the conference and engaged in substantive discussions with international peers. Mr. Alex Boyle, module leader for Business Administration, served as both a session chair and presenter, showcasing his strong academic capability and reflecting the broader recognition of the College’s teaching excellence.
The active involvement and commendable performance of the College’s faculty at this international academic event not only strengthened its connections with global partners but also injected fresh momentum into integrating advanced educational practices and improving the quality of its international programs.
