CDUT Hosted Online Dialog with UNI

On the evening of November 5th, 2024, CDUT held the inaugural online dialog with the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI). The meeting was attended by a distinguished group of leaders and experts, including Lang Xianguo, Director of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, and Party Secretary of the College of International Education (CIE), Li Shan, Dean of CIE, Li Zhiwu, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation (the Laboratory), Wang Heng, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Exchange Center, Edgard Argume Chávez, Dean of the College of Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering at UNI, Joseph Sinchitullo, Director of the Office of External Relations, and Sui Hongwei, General Manager of Peru Branch at PetroChina Great Wall Drilling Co., Ltd. The meeting was chaired by Liu Hao, Project Officer at the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation.

Lang expressed gratitude for the presence of the leaders from UNI and Great Wall Drilling Co., Ltd. He emphasized the significance of the meeting, hoping that it would serve as a chance to discuss in depth the details of future cooperation and push forward the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Lang then provided a comprehensive overview of CDUT’s development history and achievements, including its disciplinary strengths, research innovations, and talent development system, thereby offering the representatives of UNI a thorough understanding of CDUT’s profile and capabilities.

Edgard thanked the Great Wall Drilling Co., Ltd. for facilitating the meeting and expressed his anticipation for the eventual signing of a MoU with CDUT. He noted that establishing a cooperative relationship would be of great significance in expanding their international collaborations. Joseph Sinchitullo introduced the basic overview of UNI, including its historical development, academic programs, and their teaching and research accomplishments in the fields of petroleum, natural gas, and petrochemical engineering.

Subsequently, Sui introduced the scope of operations of Great Wall Drilling Co., Ltd., its overseas business scale, and the importance of the Peru project to them. He expressed his honor in serving as a bridge for collaboration between the two universities and hoped for a mutually beneficial partnership through this cooperation.

Representing CDUT’s specific research cooperation unit, Li Zhiwu highlighted the Laboratory as one of China’s earliest and most authoritative research institutions in the field of oil and gas resource development. He further noted the Laboratory’s successful establishment of collaborations with Latin American universities. Li hoped that this dialog would lead to the formation of a cooperative partnership with UNI, expanding CDUT’s influence in Latin America. Wang provided additional details about the Laboratory, including its research directions and scientific facilities.

Li Shan provided a detailed introduction to the MoU, which encompasses many aspects such as joint talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research, offering a clear direction and solid framework for deeper cooperation between the two universities.

In the following discussion session, the three parties deliberated on the possibility of signing a trilateral agreement and expanding the cooperation to include more specific content. All parties expressed their gratitude and expressed their hope to sign the MoU as soon as possible to further advance future collaborations.

The dialog between CDUT and UNI marks the beginning of their partnership, clearly outlining the scope of future cooperation. Moving forward, both universities will rely on the School of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Petrochemical Engineering and the Laboratory, together with Peru Branch at PetroChina Great Wall Drilling Co., Ltd., to engage in practical cooperation in areas such as research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and internships. This partnership will contribute to the internationalization efforts of Chinese universities.
