On September 9th, 2024, a symposium on International Outreach of Dujiangyan’s Water Conservancy and the Establishment of International Study Centers was convened at the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Development Center (DWCDC) in Sichuan Province. Distinguished representatives, including Wu Jian, a member of DWCDC Party Committee and Deputy Director of DWCDC, Tang Jilan, Vice President of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPPAFFC), Li Shan, Dean of the School of International Education at CDUT (Oxford Brookes College), Lan Jun, Director of the Sichuan International Cultural Exchange Center (SICEC), and Deng Sihua, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Sichuan Rural Daily under the Sichuan Daily Press Group, gathered to discuss strategies for enhancing the global impact of Dujiangyan’s water conservancy civilization and the blueprint for constructing international study centers.
The attendees toured the Command Center of Dujiangyan Irrigation Area to gain insights into the modern operational mechanisms of this ancient water management system. Director Wu provided an in-depth overview of the progress of infrastructure enhancement projects in the Dujiangyan irrigation area, as well as the command center's sand table model. A formal meeting themed Research Plan for International Outreach of Dujiangyan’s Water Conservancy and the Establishment of International Study Centers (the Plan) was officially initiated.

Lan Jun, Director of SICEC, proposed the Plan and called for a collaborative effort among government, educational institutions, media, and associations to chart a course for the global promotion of Dujiangyan’s water conservancy civilization. A representative from the Water Culture Department of DWCDC then presented an overview of the Dujiangyan Irrigation Area Command Center and the Water Culture Museum, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Dujiangyan’s water conservancy civilization for the symposium participants.

Li Shan, Dean of the School of International Education at CDUT (Oxford Brookes College), outlined CDUT’s international influence during her address, detailing its extensive experience in international exchange programs and conferences. She expressed that CDUT is well-positioned to support the international study center with varied activities, including international student visits, organization of global competitions, hosting of international summer schools, collaboration with enterprises, and volunteer internships, thereby underscoring our commitment to global communication.
