On November 25, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) held the inaugural meeting of the Council of the College for Elite Engineers and the advancement meeting on the College’s development in Chengdu.

The event was attended by Hu Weifeng, First-Level Inspector of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education; Yan Xudong, Director-General of the Department of Personnel and Education, China Earthquake Administration; Han Zhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Military-Civilian Integration Geological Survey Center, China Geological Survey; Zhang Mengheng, Chief Engineer of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences; as well as representatives from 34 first-term council member organizations including the China Geological Survey, China National Nuclear Corporation, and China National Petroleum Corporation. Wang Linlin, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), also attended as the representative of the national colleges for elite engineers. CDUT leadership, heads of administrative offices and colleges, and representatives of graduate supervisors were present at the meeting.

Hu Weifeng, First-Level Inspector of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, congratulated CDUT on convening the meeting. He emphasized that as a national “Double First-Class” university, CDUT has a solid foundation in engineering education and aligns closely with the development needs of Sichuan’s key industries.

Vice President Zeng announced the list of the first-term Chair Unit, Vice Chair Units, and Council Member Units. Leaders then presented plaques to representatives of the council member units, officially marking the establishment of the Council of the College for Elite Engineers, CDUT.

All participants reviewed and approved the Articles of Association of the Council of the College for Elite Engineers, Chengdu University of Technology (Draft).
CDUT President Xu Qiang noted that as the Chair Unit, CDUT will focus on the high-level training of engineering master’s and doctoral students and contribute more to building Sichuan into a strong province in education.

Yan Xudong, Director-General of the Department of Personnel and Education of the China Earthquake Administration, spoke on behalf of the Vice Chair Units. He stated that they will focus on the national strategic needs in earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, and promote the integration of the education, talent, industry, and innovation chains.

As a representative of the national system of colleges for elite engineers, Wang Linlin, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), shared experiences on cultivating excellent engineers.
