In an effort to deepen university-local cooperation, fulfill the mission of serving the community, and cultivate scientific thinking among youth, the Chengdu Natural History Museum (The Museum of Chengdu University of Technology), at the invitation of CDUT’s Yibin Campus, brought its resources and expertise to local schools from March 25 to 26. Themed “Exploring the World of Science: A Journey Through the Evolution of Life,” this science outreach initiative reached Chengdu Foreign Languages School in Yibin’s Sanjiang New Area, CDUT’s Yibin Campus, and Yibin Shuangcheng Primary School, delivering high-quality science education to over 3,300 students and teachers. The program represents CDUT’s commitment to rooting itself in Yibin and advancing university-community cooperation and collaborative education through an innovative model of “university resource sharing out of local needs.”

Leveraging CDUT’s disciplinary strengths, five museum educators brought with them dozens of rare fossil specimens—including dinosaur vertebrae, petrified wood, Orthoceras, and coral—as well as 18 scientific display boards. Through specimen exhibitions, informative displays, and interactive lectures, they offered students an engaging and educational experience in natural sciences. The program exemplified the effective alignment of university resources with local needs and marked a solid step forward in deepening university-community collaboration.

On March 25, the museum team visited Chengdu Foreign Languages School in Yibin’s Sanjiang New Area. There, they delivered the lecture “The Formation of Earth and the Evolution of Life,” transforming cutting-edge university research into accessible science content for primary and secondary students. Through vivid storytelling and engaging explanations, students were taken on a journey through 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history. Around 1,000 teachers and students experienced this immersive exploration of science, gaining a deeper appreciation for the wonders of life and evolution.
