Eco-Restoration Carbon Sequestration Material, Process and Equipment Integrated Technology Selected as One of the Top Ten Cases of Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation at Chengdu in 2023

On March 14th, 2024, the Chengdu Municipal Pilot Platform Service Supply and Demand Docking and Achievement Transformation Top Ten List Release Conference (the Conference), hosted by the Chengdu Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and the Chengdu Municipal Development and Reform Commission, were held at the Chengdu Eco Hi-Tec Island.

At the Conference, the Eco-Restoration Carbon Sequestration Material, Process and Equipment Integrated Technology System, a key technology transformation project incubated by CDUT and the Carbon Sequestration and Eco-Restoration Research Center at Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, was listed as one of the Top Ten Cases of Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation in Chengdu City in 2023. At the awards ceremony, Chen Gang, Deputy Director of the Chengdu Municipal Science and Technology Bureau presented the honorary certificates to the award-winning units.

Led by Professor Pei Xiangjun of CDUT, the research team of the Carbon Sequestration and Eco-Restoration Research Center made this achievement. Focusing on the strategic needs of national ecological civilization construction and dual-carbon goals, the project has overcome the technical challenges of eco-restoration and carbon sequestration in fragile areas. It has formed four integrated technology systems: time-variable strengthening material and controllable grouting low-carbon technology, glutinous rice slurry eco-slope protection and carbon sequestration technology, wind and sand belt water-retaining and soil-stabilizing materials and eco-restoration carbon sequestration technology, and ecological carbon sink accounting technology. There were 86 authorized invention patents, more than 20 registered software copyrights, and 3 registered trademarks, with a total of 3 sets of independent intellectual property product series. The related research and applications are at the forefront nationwide, and some achievements, evaluated by authoritative institutions, have reached the international leading level. They have won several awards at national and provincial levels, including the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award and the China Patent Gold Award. Additionally, the technological achievements have been selected for the key promotion technology catalog of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Transport. In the past three years, a total of 45 transformation contracts have been signed, with a cumulative transformation amount of 146 million yuan, directly or indirectly saving and generating economic benefits of over 10 billion yuan for service objects. It has promoted the development of new quality productivity in the field of ecological restoration and carbon sequestration on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and its surrounding areas.

Currently, the team has established cooperative relationships with centrally-administered State-owned enterprises such as China Railway Group Limited, Sinochem Corporation, and Power Construction Corporation of China, as well as leading local industry companies. They are jointly promoting the application of technological achievements in major engineering projects under extremely complex conditions such as the Sichuan-Xizang Railway construction, hydropower engineering steep slopes, complex slopes in high-altitude mines, and tailings ponds. These achievements have attracted attention from both academia and industry, forming a series of green, low-carbon, cost-effective, operationally convenient, and easily popularized ecological products. They promote green, low-carbon, and circular development, and compose a new chapter in ecological civilization construction.
