On November 24th, CDUT successfully launched its first high-level international general education course, jointly organized with world-renowned professors and open to all students in CDUT, both Chinese and international, in a bid to advance the development of CDUT's premier and top-tier courses, further its academic construction goals, enhance students' international comprehension and global competency, and foster open-mindedness, cooperation, and inclusivity.
The course, entirely in English, is taught by Prof. Christopher Proctor, an Associate Professor of Bioelectronics from Oxford University. Themed on “Engineering the Future-Emerging Tools that will Shape the Future of Technology”, the course aims to enhance students' understanding and application of new-generation technologies, such as artificial intelligence, providing in-depth insights into technological advancements and industrial development to address the impact and challenges posed by technological breakthroughs. Upon completion of the course, CDUT will award course certificates and credits to all students who successfully pass the assessment.
Before the official start on the evening of the 24th, CDUT's Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, along with course instructors, provided a comprehensive orientation to more than 180 enrolled students from both domestic and international backgrounds. The orientation covered course schedules, attendance requirements, assessment criteria, and important guidelines for students to observe during the course. Best wishes were conveyed to all students for a successful completion of the course, preparing them for future studies and international development. During the class sessions, Professor Christopher Proctor delivered a contextual overview of the significance and challenges of engineering education. He clarified fundamental concepts and common tools in engineering while providing a detailed exploration of the historical development and future trends in engineering. The students actively participated in the class, engaging in lively interactions with the professor, contributing to an energetic classroom atmosphere.

This premier international general education course melds general education with specialized education. By guiding students to deepen their expertise and complementing it with high-quality general education, the course aims to cultivate outstanding and innovative talents for CDUT. In the future, CDUT will continue to integrate international faculty and teaching methods, promoting comprehensive talent development and nurturing professionals better suited to the demands of today's globalization.
