On July 20th, Liu Qingyou, Principal of CDUT, was invited to grace the Drilling Ceremony of the “Shendi Chuanke 1,” an ambitious deep well project undertaken by China National Petroleum Corporation. This well, positioned in Jiange County, Guangyuan City, boasts a remarkable design depth of 10,520 meters, rendering it one of the most formidable worldwide 10,000-meter deep wells. Distinguished as the second 10,000-meter deep well in China, following the Shendi Take 1 in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang, the “Shendi Chuanke 1” endeavors to push the boundaries of drilling prowess. Employing a cutting-edge, domestically developed 12,000-meter ultra-deep well automated drilling rig, this project has impressively achieved a striking increase in indigenous equipment utilization, which surpassed the magnificent threshold of 90%. In this remarkable venture, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) has played a pivotal role, providing state-of-the-art technical support in the realms of petroleum geology and seamless integration of petroleum equipment.
The exploration of 10,000-meter deep oil and gas reserves has become a global mega-project, serving as a significant benchmark for assessing engineering technology and equipment levels. The implementation of the Shendi Chuanke 1 marks a new era for China’s oil and gas exploration and development, delving into depths that were previously uncharted. This endeavor, moreover, will further unveil the secrets of the geological evolution below the Sinian strata, and hence holds great importance in exploring the vast oil and gas resources in ultra-deep strata, innovating China’s geological theories of ultra-deep oil and gas reservoir, and elevating China’s core technological capabilities and equipment of oil and gas engineering.
Over the years, CDUT has been being relied on platforms, such as the national key laboratory, “Geology and Development Engineering of Oil and Gas Reservoir”, to provide vital talent and technical support for the exploration and development of 11 large basins and hundreds of oil and gas fields in China. Through these efforts, the university has made significant contributions to ensuring national energy security.
