The First Training Base of CDUT Selected for Sichuan Provincial Training Program for Top-notch Students of Basic Disciplines
Recently, the Education Department of Sichuan Province issued the Notification on the List of the First Batch of Training Bases for Top-notch Students of Basic Disciplines in Sichuan Province (Letter of the Education Department of Sichuan Province [2023] No. 147). The “Training Base for Top-notch Students of Geology” project proposed by the College of Earth Sciences has been successfully selected, becoming the first training base for top-notch student of Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT).
It is understood that Sichuan Provincial Training Program for Top-notch Students of Basic Disciplines is a major talent cultivation reform program implemented by the Education Department of Sichuan Province since 2023. During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the plan aims to construct approximately 20 Training Bases 2.0 for Top-notch Students of Basic Disciplines in two batches throughout the province. A total of 9 projects have been approved for establishment this time.
In recent years, CDUT has actively implemented the “Six Excellences and One Top-notch” talent training plan with the fundamental task of fostering students with integrity and virtues. It has also systematically progressed in the construction of new engineering disciplines and humanities. To explore the laws and effective approaches of cultivating top-notch innovative talents, CDUT has established the Innovation Class for Geological Engineering, Elite Class for Planetary Science, and Experimental Class for Sedimentary Geology by virtue of its strengths in top-tier disciplines. Moving forward, CDUT will take the opportunity to implement the “Three Systems and Three Transformations” (the establishment of a professional, international, and market-oriented management team, the implementation of a leadership tenure system, an all-staff appointment system, and a salary- and performance-based compensation system). It also aims to improve the selection and training mechanisms for top-notch talents and deepen the integration of industry, academia, and research, in an effort to form a distinctive top-notch talent cultivation system in basic disciplines that can serve as a paradigm for the innovation and development of undergraduate education in Sichuan in the new era.
