The Scientific Research Team of CDUT Won the First Prize of the 2022 Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award

Recently, the China Association for Geographic Industry and Sciences announced the results of the 2022 China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award (hereinafter referred to as the “Award”). Upon several selections and assessments, the scientific research result jointly obtained by the team of "Geoscience Big Data and Intelligent Application" under the charge of Prof. Ou Ou of College of Computer Science and Cyber Security, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Geological Bureau, and other organizations was finally granted the first prize of the Award.

In recent years, the College of Computer Science and Cyber Security  has attached great importance to scientific research and innovation. Specifically, the College has successively introduced many scientific research guarantee and incentive initiatives, actively adapted to the requirements of the new era, closely targeted national and local major strategic needs such as the development of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, Western Ecological and Environmental Protection, and Sichuan-Tibet Railway, proactively responded to the "high-position, high-standard, and high-quality" construction action plan for CDUT's first-class disciplines, and vigorously promoted the cluster development and construction of "information + geosciences". Relying on CDUT's scientific research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection and the Key Laboratory of Deep-time Geography and Environment Reconstruction and Applications of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the College set up interdisciplinary research teams, promoted the research of cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary integration, and advanced the implementation of applied research and achievements transformation. Prof. Ou Ou's team won the first prize of the Award this time, which is a typical achievement of the College's integration of industry and education and in-depth cooperation between industry, university, and research over the years and also a fruitful result of the College's scientific research and innovation team. In the future, our scientific research and innovation team will continue to forge ahead and work together to achieve better results!

The Geoscience Big Data and Intelligent Application Research Center, CDUT focuses on the integration of advanced information technologies (e.g.: space technology, big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things) and inter-disciplines and areas (e.g.: geophysical prospecting, disaster monitoring, ecology and environment). It is committed to building an "international leading intelligent geoscience system". Since its establishment three years ago, the team’s members have won more than 10 awards and honors, including two second prizes of the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of the Chinese Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography (in 2019 and 2020), the first prize of the Science and Technology Award of Land and Resources (in Guangdong) in 2019, the third prize of the China Security Technology Award in 2020, the first prize of the Sichuan Computer Science and Technology Award in 2021, the Most Potential Promotion Award for Digital Sichuan Science and Technology Achievement (Product) in 2020, Chengdu "Chengdu Drifter Cup" Global Entrepreneurship Competition Grand Final Winner in 2021, the 2021 Chengdu "Dongjiao Huazhang" Leading Creative Talent Project, and the 2022 Chengdu Science and Technology Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program. The team has made fruitful achievements in geological disaster monitoring and early warning, artificial intelligence and geosciences, 3D geological modeling technology, geosciences big data, GIS, and digital twins, and provided professional information services in important fields such as land resources, disaster prevention and mitigation, environmental protection, energy conservation, emission reduction, and ecological restoration.

It is learned that the China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award was established upon approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Office for Science and Technology Awards, and the Ministry of Natural Resources. It is the highest-level scientific and technological achievement award in China's geographic information industry, which aims to reward projects that have made outstanding contributions to China's geographic information science research, technological innovation and development, the promotion and application of scientific and technological achievements, the industrialization of new and high technologies, and the development of major projects. For the CDUT’s team, wining this honor is also a high recognition from industry experts for the team's scientific research achievements in the areas of geoscience big data and intelligent application.
