Founded on March 15, 1956, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) is a "world first-class university with first-class disciplines" built jointly by the Ministry of Education and the authority of Sichuan Province. It has two campuses: Chengdu Campus and Yibin Campus. Chengdu Campus is located in the downtown area of Chengdu City with a superb location and a floor area of 2,887mus (about 1.925km2). Yinbin Campus, situated in the Lingang Campus Town in Yibin City, Sichuan Province and, lying at the foot of a mountain and beside a river, is a beautiful place with an area of 1,000mus(about 667m2). The University has 74 undergraduate programs including 60 offered in Chengdu Campus and 14 offered in Yibin Campus, of which Geology, Energy, Resources, Nuclear Technology, Environment etc. are its strengths and Chemical Engineering, Materials, Electronics, Mechanics, Information Science, and Management Science etc. are its features. Among them, 15 are state first-class disciplines, 8 are state characteristic and competitive disciplines, 4 are pilots of the state comprehensive discipline reform, 38 are provincial first-class disciplines, 12 are provincial characteristic disciplines, and 13 are pilots of the provincial comprehensive discipline reform. The University is qualified to confer doctoral degrees in 7 primary disciplines and master's degrees in 22 primary disciplines. It has a faculty of 3454 members, including 338 professors, 729 associate professors, 58 flexibly-introduced high-end experts (academicians), members titled "Talent" of state level and included in the state Talent Project for 152 person-times, and members titled "Talent" and included in the Talent Project of ministerial and provincial levels for 447 person-times. With 4 state demonstration centers for experimental teaching, 4 state virtual and simulated experiment projects, 3 state centers for engineering practice and education, 2 national off-campus practice and education bases for college students, the University is implementing the state College Students' Innovative Entrepreneurial Training Plan Program. It has two state key laboratories (the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection and the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploration) and more than 30 ministerial and provincial scientific research platforms. Up to date, it has cultivated nearly 210,000 prominent talents including a great number of reputed experts and scholars at home and abroad who have made important contributions in the central and local governments and in the fields of land and resources, exploration, geology, energy, environment, internet etc., and are highly acclaimed within all sectors of society.
Yibin Campus, integral to the building of higher-level Chengdu University of Technology with more distinguished strengths and features, has been dedicated to in-depth and high-quality development, with disciplines set up to well fit the needs of regional economy and industries, mainly including Electronic Information and Computer, New Energy, Ecology and Environment, Modern Management and other discipline categories. Following the criteria and requirements of "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines" and the national and regional strategic needs and targeting the frontiers and key areas of science and technology, the Yibin Campus has fully leveraged the competitive disciplines, experience in running educational institutions and faculty strength that the University has forged over its long history to optimize its layout of disciplines and talents cultivation, promote greater synergy between industry, academia, research, and application to achieve breakthroughs, build an educational system to nurture capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills, improving its talent quality and contributing to economic growth and social development in the region. The Campus will continue to persist with its original aspiration to "cultivate talents for the Party and the country". Focused around the fundamental task of "fostering virtue through education" and to further the integration of education with industry, it has been actively exploring ways to align and integrate industry chains, innovation chains and education chains, highlighting in-depth and high-quality development and providing reliable support for the building of CDUT into "a world first-class university with first-class disciplines".
