To thoroughly implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Party—and in active response to key documents such as the Opinions on the Prosperity and Development of Socialist Literature and Art, the State Council’s Notice on Policies Supporting the Inheritance and Development of Traditional Chinese Opera, and the Decision of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Party on Promoting the Integrated Development of Culture and Tourism and Strengthening the Cultural Tourism Industry—Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) recently hosted the large-scale performance segment of the 2025 Sichuan University Students’ Campus Theatre Showcase Season.
Co-hosted by the Sichuan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and organized by the Sichuan Dramatists Association, the showcase brought three large-scale productions to CDUT’s Experimental Theatre. Students from Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Film and Television University, and Sichuan Vocational College of Art presented Six Characters in Search of an Author, Family, and Furong Grand Hotel, drawing strong interest and lively feedback from the campus community.
As part of CDUT’s annual5 “Good Shows at CDUT” aesthetic education program, the productions were recommended performances for the required general education course Art Appreciation and Practice. More than 1,400 students, along with theatre enthusiasts from across campus, attended the shows—a turnout that underscored both the growing appeal of student theatre and the expanding impact of CDUT’s arts education initiatives.
The successful staging of the showcase enriched campus cultural life and added momentum to the university’s efforts to strengthen its aesthetic education brand. The event demonstrated the influence of theatrical arts among university students and highlighted the value of arts immersion in higher education. The on-campus operations were jointly managed by the College of Communication Science and Art and the Center for Physical, Aesthetic, and Labor Education, with support from the Publicity Department, Academic Affairs Office, Youth League Committee, and Logistics Group. CDUT’s coordination won strong praise from the Sichuan Dramatists Association and the participating institutions.
