On March 16, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) and the Central University of Ecuador (UCE) successfully held the online opening ceremony for the third academic year of their Chinese language program.
The ceremony was attended by Julieta Logroño, Academic Vice Rector of UCE; Cruz Elías Ibadango Anrrango, Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Mining, Petroleum and Environmental Engineering; Wilson Patricio Chiluiza Vásquez, Director of the Language Academic Center; and Li Jun, Deputy General Manager of the Ecuador Branch of CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Co., Ltd. Representatives from CDUT included Lang Xianguo, Director of the Office of International Exchanges & Cooperation; Xia Yanhua, Distinguished Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures; Yan Liming, Vice Dean of the College of International Education; and Chinese language instructors Zhang Yu and Fu Yuwei. Over 50 students enrolled in the Chinese course at UCE also participated. The event was hosted by Liu Hao from CDUT’s Office of International Exchanges & Cooperation.

Julieta Logroño noted that the cooperation agreement between the two universities reflects the depth of China–Ecuador cultural and academic exchange. She expressed her firm belief that the new course will serve as an excellent platform for cross-cultural learning and communication.
Cruz Elías Ibadango Anrrango expressed gratitude on behalf of the faculty to both universities and Chuanqing Drilling’s Ecuador Branch.
Wilson Patricio Chiluiza Vásquez noted that the Chinese course is not only a language learning platform but also a significant manifestation of both universities’ efforts to promote the internationalization of higher education.
Li Jun stated that since the 2023 education and research cooperation agreement facilitated the implementation of the Chinese teaching program, the blended online and offline teaching model over the past two years has become a vital bond for Sino-Ecuadorian cultural exchange. Today, this cooperative relationship is more robust than ever.
Lang Xianguo reviewed the collaborative journey since the two universities signed the agreement in December 2023, which witnessed the deepening of the two parties’ friendship and cooperation. He highlighted that over the past two years, Ecuadorian students have shown immense enthusiasm for learning Chinese.
Xia Yanhua emphasized that language is a bridge connecting the youth of China and Ecuador. He hopes the students will persist in their online studies with self-discipline and become ambassadors of Sino-Ecuadorian cultural exchange.
Looking ahead, CDUT will continue to work hand in hand with the Central University of Ecuador to write a new chapter of mutual scientific and cultural learning and people-to-people friendship between the two nations.
