Overview of Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education at Chengdu University of Technology

I. History of Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education at Chengdu University of Technology

In 2001, the Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) started to negotiate with foreign universities and prepare for Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education programs. In 2002, the first Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education program, the Tourism and Hotel Management Specialist Education Programme between the Chengdu University of Technology and the Australian Institute of Tourism & Hospitality, was approved by Sichuan  Province. In 2003, the first batch of 69 students enrolled in the tourism and hotel management specialty program.

Based on the original China-Australia program, Chengdu University of Technology continues to sum up the experience and lessons learned from the cooperation to actively expand the channels of schooling. With a strict quality assurance system for higher education, the UK 's education level is world-leading. In the later stages of selecting cooperative partners, CDUT gives priority to organizing Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs with UK universities, thus ensuring the introduction of quality educational resources. CDUT has created the following five cooperative education programs with three UK universities respectively:

     Computer Information Management Specialist Education Program (2012)

     Business Administration Undergraduate Education Program (2013)

Chengdu University of Technology and Edge Hill University (UK) jointly have co-organized the following education programs:

     Tourism Management Specialist Education Program (2011-2017)

Chengdu University of Technology and Oxford Brookes University (UK) jointly have co-organized the following education programs:

      Accounting Undergraduate Education Program (2016)

II. Talent Training Mode of "Studying Abroad by Staying Put" in Cooperative Education

At the beginning of the practice of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, CDUT put forward the "3+0"/"4+0" mode of "Studying Abroad by Staying Put": that is, students can enjoy high-quality education and teaching resources abroad without going abroad. Students who have completed the credits agreed upon and recognized by both Chinese and foreign sides in CDUT can obtain a dual diploma from CDUT and the foreign university.

Features and advantages:

1. The curriculum is designed and arranged in such a way as to ensure a socialist orientation, emphasizing and guaranteeing education in Marxist theory and the traditional culture of our nation. In professional teaching, the advanced teaching plans, syllabus, teaching materials, and other quality educational resources of foreign partner universities are introduced comprehensively, realizing the "localization" of foreign quality resources.

2.The curriculum of the program is based on the curriculum of foreign universities, which accounts for about 2/3 of the total curriculum, while the curriculum of the Chinese side accounts for about 1/3 of the whole curriculum, including general courses and disciplinary basic courses. Foreign teachers who meet the qualification requirements of the two sides are selected by the foreign side to teach 2/3 of the courses listed in the teaching plan of cooperative education in English.

3. The student management of the cooperative education programs is consistent with that of other non-cooperative majors in CDUT.

It has been 15 years since CDUT launched a Chinese-foreign cooperative education program in 2003, from the first specialty of tourism and hotel management and business administration to the current undergraduate specialty of business administration and accounting. So far, CDUT has trained more than 3,000 undergraduate and junior college students, promoting the internationalization of talent training. CDUT has promoted the reform and management of education and teaching by drawing on the British teaching concept (Focus on the Scientific Management of Learning), teaching mode, and strict quality monitoring system (QAA) and laying a solid foundation for the establishment of a Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution in the next step.
