On October 25, the inaugural meeting of the Alumni Association of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) was successfully held in the International Academic Lecture Hall. Academician Tang Juxing of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Hu Bing, Deputy Secretary of the CDUT Party Committee, and Hou Mingcai, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of the university, attended the event. More than 300 participants, including alumni representatives from the Institute of Sedimentary Geology and representatives of partner enterprises, were present.
In his address, Hu Bing extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the Alumni Association and expressed sincere welcome to all alumni and guests. He highly commended the Institute’s outstanding contributions and the remarkable achievements of its alumni. Hu emphasized that the university would continue to fully support the development of both the Institute and its Alumni Association, working together to advance CDUT’s “Double First-Class” initiative to new heights.

Academician Tang Juxing reflected on his personal growth and experiences at the Institute of Sedimentary Geology and expressed deep gratitude toward his alma mater. He praised the Institute’s glorious accomplishments and encouraged it to uphold its spirit of perseverance and excellence.

During the meeting, the head of CDUT’s Office of Cooperation and Development and Alumni Affairs Office read out the official approval document authorizing the establishment of the Alumni Association of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology. The head of the Institute presented a report on the preparatory work for the association.
The assembly deliberated and adopted the Constitution of the Alumni Association of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology and the Election Procedures for the Council of the Alumni Association, and elected the council members, president, and secretary-general.

Professor-level Senior Engineer Zheng Herong, former President of the Sinopec Petroleum Exploration and Production Research Institute, delivered his inaugural speech as the first President of the Alumni Association.

The meeting also included a donation agreement signing ceremony, during which certificates of appreciation were presented to alumni and corporate donors.

In the afternoon of October 25, the Symposium on Disciplinary Development of the Institute of Sedimentary Geology and Alumni Exchange Forum was held in Conference Room No. 6.

Vice President Hou Mingcai reviewed the Institute’s remarkable achievements over the years. He emphasized that the Institute should continue to promote interdisciplinary integration and strive to build itself into a world-class research institution in sedimentary geology.

Alumni, faculty, and students engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and social service. Participants proposed strengthening collaboration with research institutes and industrial partners, with a focus on addressing key geological challenges. It was unanimously agreed that, looking ahead, the Institute should continue to uphold the spirit of rigorous scholarship, focus on big-data-driven interdisciplinary research and integrated approaches to environmental and climate governance, and foster mutual growth between individuals and the Institute.
The symposium concluded in a warm and amicable atmosphere. It forged consensus and clarified future directions for the Institute’s high-quality development.
