To further advance the university’s strategic layout of “One Core (Sichuan) and Two Wings (Tibet, Xinjiang)”, with a focus on national strategies and the socioeconomic development needs of Xinjiang, Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) President Xu Qiang recently led a delegation to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Vice Chairman of the region, Qeyser Abdurehim, held in-depth discussions with Xu Qiang on establishing a region-university cooperation agreement and leveraging science and technology to support mineral exploration and surveys of Xinjiang’s energy and resource sectors.

On the morning of July 3, the Science & Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and CDUT held a working symposium. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on implementing the spirit of the 7th National Symposium on Providing Science and Technology Assistance to Xinjiang, strengthening scientific cooperation, and accelerating the development of innovation platforms. Researcher Tang Juxing, Deputy Director of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Xu Qiang, President of CDUT, and Vice President Hou Mingcai attended and delivered speeches. The meeting was chaired by Abulimiti Yili, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Science & Technology Department of Xinjiang. Relevant officials from the department, as well as from institutions related to natural resources and geological research, also participated.

Tang Juxing noted that Xinjiang holds strategic value in energy resource reserves and ecological protection, and that geological scientists should proactively align with regional development needs. He emphasized that the symposium has built a critical platform for deepening multi-party collaboration, particularly in the areas of green mineral resource development, geological disaster monitoring and early warning systems. He advocated for leveraging local research capacity to jointly build high-level innovation platforms and cultivate local talent, thereby supporting Xinjiang’s sustainable development through science and technology.

Xu Qiang stated that supporting Xinjiang through science and technology is a key measure to serve national strategies and promote high-quality development in the region. CDUT places great importance on cooperation with Xinjiang and has already sent six experts to serve in various departments and one dedicated staff member to help build the CDUT Xinjiang Institute of Resources and Environmental Engineering. The university will actively participate in the construction of the Green Mining Laboratory in Xinjiang. Through co-building innovation platforms, jointly undertaking key research tasks, and promoting resource sharing and collaborative innovation, it will work with the Science & Technology Department of Xinjiang to support high-quality development in the region.
