In order to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, to solidly advance the training of young scientific and technological talents in the new era, and to promote the construction of geological energy and mineral resource development, geological disaster prevention and mitigation, and geological environmental protection in our province, the Sichuan Province Postdoctoral Academic Exchange Event on Geological Resources Development and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation was successfully held in Chengdu on August 24th, 2024. The event was organized by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and undertaken by CDUT. President Xu Qiang attended the event, delivered a speech, and presented an academic report. Nearly 150 participants from various institutions, including Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Southwest Petroleum University, and the Chengdu Geological Survey Center of the China Geological Survey Bureau, took part in the event. The event was chaired by Zhao Jianjun, the acting dean of the School of Environmental and Civil Engineering.
Scene of the Event
President Xu Qiang extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, scholars, and young talents in attendance, expressing gratitude to the Sichuan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, as well as to sister universities and research institutes for their enduring support, particularly in the realm of postdoctoral endeavors. He emphasized the pivotal role of postdoctoral research fellows as a reserve of national strategic talent and as a vital force within the youth scientific community. CDUT places great emphasis on the development of postdoctoral programs, viewing them as a crucial conduit for attracting and nurturing top-tier talent and as a key platform for academic discipline development. CDUT has witnessed the growth and enhanced quality of its postdoctoral community, with recent accolades including the “Sino-German Postdoctoral Exchange Program” and the “Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program,” signifying fresh progress in postdoctoral talent cultivation. Xu highlighted the importance of harnessing multidisciplinary integration and technological innovation as key drivers of progress in the fields of geological resource development and disaster prevention and mitigation. He encouraged CDUT to leverage its unique strengths to contribute to the provincial and national initiatives in these areas. He expressed his hope that the young scientific talents, including postdoctoral research fellows, would use this platform to share their research findings and practical experiences, to explore cutting-edge theories and methodologies in geological resource development and disaster prevention and mitigation, and to broaden their research perspectives while stimulating innovation, all in the pursuit of contributing to a new chapter in Sichuan's modernization with distinctive Chinese characteristics.
Xu Qiang Delivering a Speech
