On the afternoon of December 25, 2023, Cao Zhen, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was appointed as a part-time professor at CDUT. He delivered a specialized academic lecture titled “Cosmic Rays, Gamma Astronomy, and LHAASO” at the 29th session of the “Everest Forum” and the 61st session of the Lectures of the College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering. President Xu Qiang chaired the event, which was attended by over 300 faculty members, department heads, and student representatives.

Prior to the commencement of the lecture session, a ceremonial appointment was conducted. Xu Qiang awarded Cao Zhen his letter of commission as a part-time professor.

In a vivid lecture that traversed the domain of cosmic ray and gamma-ray astronomy detection technologies, Cao Zhen expounded on the understanding, contemplation, and research of cosmic and gamma rays within and beyond our galaxy. He placed particular emphasis on the series of discoveries made in the exploration of high-energy cosmic rays, dark matter, and gamma-ray sources following the establishment of the nation's significant scientific infrastructure, the high-altitude cosmic ray observatory “LHAASO”. Cao also shared his experiences, philosophies, and strategies that underpin effective scientific inquiry.

Prior to the meeting, Cao Zhen, accompanied by three others, visited CDUT for discussions. The symposium was convened in the Nuclear Engineering Building's Room 215, with the entire faculty of the College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering participating.

He provided an overview of the university and college, focusing on academic development and scientific research. Ge Liangquan highlighted the college's future development and research in nuclear science and technology, proposing prospects for collaboration. Cao Zhen emphasized the need for deepening cooperation, establishing joint teams, fortifying alliances, and expediting the development of a provincial key laboratory to elevate it to a higher standard.
