Vice President Zeng Ying and Her Delegation Attended the Dialogue on Academic and Educational Cooperation between Universities in Sichuan,   China and Pakistan

On May 11, the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC) successfully held the Dialogue on Academic and Educational Cooperation between Universities in Sichuan, China and Pakistan . Zeng Ying, a member of the Standing Committee of Party Committee and Vice President of CDUT, and the relevant principals of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, CDUT attended the Dialogue. Under the guidance of the China Association of Higher Education, the Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province, the Education Department of Sichuan Province, and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the Dialogue was held simultaneously both online and offline at venues in Chengdu, Sichuan and Islamabad, Pakistan. Pakistani representatives of 8 universities, including Quaid-i-Azam University, National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, and University of Peshawar, and Chinese representatives of Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Sichuan Agricultural University, Chengdu University of Technology, and Southwest Petroleum University, had in-depth exchanges and discussions regarding the "Reflections on Regular Contact Mode" and "Prospects of Cooperation in Superior Disciplines". The two sides reached preliminary cooperation intentions and agreed upon the procedures and requirements for joining the CPEC Consortium of Universities.

Jiang Enlai, Vice President and Secretary-General of China Association of Higher Education, Chen Xuehua, Deputy Director of the Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province, Yang Jianguo, Secondary Counsel of the Education Department of Sichuan Province, Lt General Muhammad Asghar, a member of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and former Vice Chancellor of the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, and Cui Peng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the CPJRC, delivered speeches and extended sincere congratulations on the convening of the Dialogue. The Dialogue was presided over by Hong Tianhua, Executive Director of CPJRC.

Jiang Enlai said that in order to support the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the China Association of Higher Education joined hands with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to initiate and establish an exchange mechanism for the "CPEC Consortium of Universities" and provide an exchange platform for interconnection and mutual learning in higher education of the two countries.

Chen Xuehua said that the Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province had highly valued the science and technology cooperation between universities and institutions and would keep supporting industrial institutions, universities, and research institutes such as CPJRC to further and stably promote international cooperation in science and technology innovation. The Department would also actively engage in cooperation R&D, technology transfer, joint construction of co-research platforms and joint organization of important science and technology exchange events.

Cui Peng hoped that a smooth communication and exchange platform between Sichuan and Pakistani universities could be set up after the Dialogue and more Sichuan universities would join the "CPEC Consortium of Universities" to promote the development of scientific and technological education in both countries.

Lt General Muhammad Asghar hoped that the Dialogue would inject new impetus into the growing cooperation, further strengthen the academic cooperation, and deepen the solid ties between the two countries through the role of higher education institutions in promoting harmony among civilizations in both countries.

After the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, Director of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Office of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, and Su Lijun, Executive Deputy Director of CPJRC and Deputy Director of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, made speeches respectively.

During the Dialogue, a principal of the Department of International Exchanges & Cooperation, CDUT introduced CDUT's history, scale, discipline strengths, scientific research achievements, international academic exchanges, and talent training projects on behalf of CDUT, with a focus on the current cooperation between CDUT and Pakistani universities. Representatives of universities including Quaid-i-Azam  University expressed their willingness to cooperate more comprehensively and deeply with CDUT in the prevention and control of geological disasters and ecological environment management and received positive responses from our representatives.

In recent years, CDUT has actively participated in the International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSDC) and the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). Since 2016, four sessions of iRALL School international doctoral training courses have been held in a row, and 17 doctors in geosciences have been trained for Pakistan . At present, our "Belt and Road Geoscience Action Plan" and international student training program have attracted a total of 10 Pakistani students to study in China (including 7 doctors and 3 masters). In the future, Chinese and Pakistani universities will expand academic exchanges and cooperation in geosciences-related fields, jointly cultivate professional and technical talents and management talents, and jointly promote the exchange of visits between university leaders of both sides.

The Dialogue is the first Sichuan-Pakistan bilateral university cooperation and exchange meeting held by CPJRC, which enhances mutual understanding between the universities of both sides, lays a foundation for recommending Sichuan universities to join the CPEC Consortium of Universities, promotes them to participate in the development of CPJRC, and provides a cooperation platform for them to actively participate in the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
